23-Foot Teacher's Pet Turns Value-class Wakeboard Boat

The new 23 vRide wakeboard boat from Malibu Boats has gone from high-end wakeboard schools to a low cost option for wakeboarding enthusiasts.

The 2009 23 vRide wakeboard boat from Malibu got its start as a pro trainer, touring the nation and in some of the country’s most elite wakeboard schools. This Malibu boat can school you, your family and your friends without the sting of that private school tuition. The 23 vRide is a large family wakeboard boat with the all performance a water sports family or a crew of pro riders needs.

The 2009 23 vRide has an impressive resume. This 23-foot by 8.3-foot Malibu has trained pros, toured the country and taught riders on their way up. Veteran Team Malibu rider Gerry Nunn and world champion Darin Shapiro have trained behind this Malibu boat. In fact, Nunn’s house was a popular stop for some of the World’s best riders when this Malibu 23-footer was at his dock. Nunn has also pulled his 23 cross-country, several times, to teach during the Malibu Just Ride Clinic Series. Shapiro used his 23 to instruct at his wakeboard school, Ride the Spot.

Malibu Dealer Bake's Marine Honored For 20-Year Mark

On the opening day of The Big Seattle Boat Show, Malibu Boats surprised Bill Baker, owner of Bake’s Marine, with an award, a jacket and a gathering commemorating his 20 years as a Malibu Boats dealer. One of Malibu’s top-ten dealers in sales, Bake’s Marine is more than a business partner to the World’s #1 selling towboat manufacturer. Bill Baker and the entire crew at Bake’s Marine are part of the Malibu Boats Family and this honor reflected that level of respect.

“I really felt honored to get the award and I was totally surprised,” Baker admitted.

Baker had no idea Mark Gibbs, Malibu Boats Northwestern Regional Sales Manager, helped coordinate the special event for him. The Bake’s Marine boat show booth was busting with Malibu boat owners, boat dealers, industry reps, Bake’s employees and representatives from the National Marine Trade Assoc. (NMTA). Michael Campbell, President of the NMTA, made a very moving speech about Baker. Campbell has known Baker for years and did a great job congratulating him. Gibbs also made a short speech and presented Baker with a leather jacket and custom trophy from Malibu Boats. Mike Sanchez, Malibu Boats Warranty and Customer Service Director, also flew in for the ceremony. The crowd cheered Bake’s Marine and toasted champagne to commemorate the milestone.

Danny Harf Landed His 1260 Behind a Malibu Boat

We are probably a little late on this, but we found out something really cool this week. After watching Danny Harf's 1260 video and talking with Team Malibu Pro Rider Chad Sharpe, we found out that Harf landed his 1260 behind Shrape's Wakesetter VLX back in September.

You can get a few glimpses of Chad's VLX in video and it looked like his boat to us, the first time we saw it. We saw the white Illusion X tower, the white boat and we thought we got a look at the Wakesetter brand on the side of the hull. We also saw that distinct looking wake. So we asked Chad if we were seeing things... He confirmed that Danny landed the history-making 1260 behind his Wakesetter.

The Isners Help Dad Land a Backroll and a Malibu Boat for Christmas

Inspired by the Malibu Boat Rockin' Christmas Event, we thought we could put you into the Christmas spirit by sharing some fun Malibu Christmas stories. We are posting owner accounts of amazing Christmas surprises that started with a Malibu boat and ended with extremely happy families.

The first of these Malibu Boats Christmas tales takes place in Washington State just before the Christmas of 2007. The Isner family visited Bake's Marine, their local Malibu Boats dealer, to take their '04 Sunscape 21 LSV to be winterized. When Joe and Kim Isner dropped their boat off they noticed the new 2008 Malibu boats in the Bake's showroom. They were all over the Wakesetter 23 LSV checking out every addition and advancement Malibu had made since their boat was made. The Isner girls, Devon 14 and Kendall 12, loved the added room. But Dad Joe was day dreaming about the coveted backroll he had been trying to land. He just knew the 23 LSV would give him the wake he knew he needed to get it done.

Malibu Boats Introduces New Price Point Boat Division

Axis Wake Research, a new boat division under Malibu Boats LLC, will begin manufacturing high performance, price point wakeboard boats later this Fall. These entry-level boats will be made available to select dealerships as early as January, 2009. The team at Axis Wake Research has its focus on bringing new levels of quality, performance and style with unparalleled pride of ownership exclusively to the entry-level boat market.

Upon analyzing the landscape of the wakeboard boat industry and surveying current boat owners in the price point market, Malibu identified specific owner expectations that were not being met. These customers have a strong desire for a price point wakeboard boat that evokes pride of ownership with unique styling, solid reputation and top shelf construction. This research showed these buyers want big wakes that are not wrapped in the "ok for everything" compromise many price-point water sports boat manufacturers push. While the Malibu Boats line is often the ultimate desire for this type of buyer, budget has limited their current options to sub-par brands chosen only for price. They helped me with my technique, I mastered a few tricks, and they gave me lots of confidence. They were 2 of the nicest guys I've ever met. I enjoyed boarding with them so much, that my family took a trip to Lake Blaine Montana to do a second clinic 2 weeks later. We had a great time again. Malibu Boats Pushing Limits at the 2009 DVD Shoot

The 2009 Malibu Boats DVD Shoot went off last week at Lake Don Pedro in California. The temperatures were in the 100's and we were on fire getting amazing footage of 12 2009 Malibu boats in four days. We captured High Definition footage on three cameras with a small group of crew and talent. The high level of production resulting from the shoot was a direct result of the Malibu factory team, camera crew and pro athletes who attended the event. We saw these people raise their game to get the job done and the footage we have in the can is a shinning example of this effort.

The new site is 500% faster with a load time of a little more than a second and a navigation structure has been completely redesigned for maximum user efficiency.

The entire site is more user-friendly whether you are a seasoned Malibu owner or just discovering Malibu Boats for the first time. Breadcrumb navigation resides at the bottom of every page so you can get back to the pages you came from easily. Malibu Boats received a 7th consecutive Boat of the Year Award from PowerBoat Magazine on May 3rd, in Los Angles, CA. The awards winners were selected after the magazine's rigorous Performance Trials in Parker, AZ, Sarasota, FL, and San Diego, CA. More than 40 performance boats were evaluated independently by two teams. This year�s PowerBoat Magazine Boat of the Year award was granted to Malibu Boats for the new 2008 Wakesetter 23 LSV. This honor makes Malibu the only boat company in the history of PowerBoat Magazine to have earned seventh Boat of the Year awards in a row. Dan Gasper, Director of Research ad Development, accepted the award for Malibu Boats during the Product Excellence Celebration in LA. New European Record for Will Asher

Britishwaterski.org.uk reported that having already picked up the US Masters and two wins on the US Pro Tour, Team Malibu Slalom Pro, Will Asher, continued his outstanding form this season at the British National Championships by running the 10.25 metre line length for the first time in his career.

Will then came back on the unbelievably short 9.75 metre line to post the best score of the season anywhere in the World this year managing to get his ski out round buoy one and hooking back up on the boat to complete the full buoy score. Unbelievable skiing from an athlete at the top of his game.

Malibu Boats Recognized for Outstanding Customer Satisfaction

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) announced Malibu Boats as a recipient of the annual 2008 Marine Industry CSI Award. Malibu Boats, the world’s top selling wakeboard and ski boat manufacturer, will be recognized for excellence in customer satisfaction, as part of NMMA’s Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) program at IBEX in October.

Malibu Boats is being honored for their efforts to increase customer satisfaction levels in the wakeboard, ski and family boating industries. They are joined by Indmar Marine Engines, powering all Malibu boats, who was also announced as a CSI award winner.

Malibu Boats and Indmar will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments in customer service during the annual Industry Awards Breakfast at the 2008 International Boat Builders’ Exhibition and Conference (IBEX), taking place October 6-8 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Dallas Won at the Malibu Open Too

Dallas Friday won Women's Wakeboarding at the Malibu Open in Michigan. I posted earlier that it was nearly a Team Malibu sweep with our Pro taking three out of the 5 water sports events at the open. Well we just found out that Dallas bested the girls to finish first in Women's Wakeboarding. That victory puts Malibu one more step closer to full sweep, 4 out of 5. Go Team Malibu!

Team Malibu Nearly Sweeps Malibu Open

Just heard from a credible source at the Malibu Open in Michigan that it was nearly a Team Malibu sweep in the final round. Team Malibu Pro Skier Will Asher took the men's slalom title. Team Malibu Pro Skier Emma Sheers took the women's slalom title. And Team Malibu Pro Wakeboarder Phillip Soven finished atop the podium in men's wakeboard. Three Team Malibu victories out of five events, that's pretty great!

Recap of Day #1 at the 2008 Malibu Open

The 10th Malibu Open Water Ski & Wakeboard Championships got under way Friday in White Lake, Mich. The event runs through Sunday. Bad weather plagued Friday's opening round, resulting in the qualifying round of men's jumping being canceled. All men's jumpers will now compete in Saturday's elimination round. Slalom scores from Friday.

World water ski records have been broken at seven of the nine previous Malibu Open events. Male athletes are competing in slalom, jumping and wakeboarding, and female athletes are competing in slalom and wakeboarding.

Results will be posted on the USA Water Ski Web site as soon as they become available throughout the weekend.

Soven Sweeps Pro Tour on His Way to Total Domination

Team Malibu Pro Rider, Phillip Soven, not only earned the Men's Pro Tour title again this year he swept the entire season. At the last pro tour stop in Reno, NV Soven crushed the competition with a near perfect score of 96.50. His nearest competitor finished 12 points behind that number.

Soven is on his way to the Malibu Open this weekend, looking to keep the streak alive. Teen People Love Dallas Too

The nominations for the 2008 Teen People Choice Awards are out! Malibu Boats Team Rider and Wakeboarding phenom Dallas Friday has made the list of five for "Choice Action Sports Female". She is the only wakeboarder nominated, guy or girl. Kids 13-19 can log on to the Teen Choice Awards web site and vote. Remember you can vote as much as once a day until August 1st.

In October 2006, Dallas took an award for the top woman wakeboarder at the Arby's Action Sports Awards, and in 2004 won the ESPY for Best Female Action Sport Athlete. Let's get this added to her resume by voting for her! The polls are open until August 1 at 12am, so support our favorite female wakeboarder at the Teen Choice polling site. Soven Takes Another Pro Wakeboard Tour Stop

Thousands of pro wakeboarding fans braved a sweltering summer day yesterday at the Pro Wakeboard Tour stop in Fort Worth to witness an epic battle in the Pro Men's Division final heat. Malibu Boats' pro rider Phillip Soven came out on top.

JD Webb (USA), Rusty Malinoski (CAN), Andrew Adkison (USA) and Phillip Soven (USA) duked it out on the waters of Lake Moser to see which rider would claim the top spot in Fort Worth. All four rippers put up some exciting runs, but in the end, reigning Tour champion and Team Malibu Pro rider, Phillip Soven took home the win. Adkison and Malinoski rounded out the podium respectively.

"It was really tough out there today, but I pulled it off and came out with the win," said Soven. "I've been riding well and I am feeling pretty confident going into the next Tour stop."

Soven to Throw New Trick in Competition

Malibu Boats Pro Rider, Phillip Soven recently landed a new wakeboard trick he designed. He named this move the Melon Crow Mobe 720. Phillip landed this for the first time behind his Wakesetter VLX on Tuesday, May 28th. The following day he landed the trick again, a couple times, and even got it on tape. Check out the video.

According to an e-mail sent by the TheLiquidCircus.com Phillip plans to throw his new Melon Crow Mobe 720 this weekend at the Pro Tour Stop in Fort Worth, Texas.

The University of Florida took the Collegiate Wakeboard Nationals top spot again this year. The 2006 wakeboard champions will once again bring the wakeboarding title back to the swamp after defeating Texas A&M in a closely contested Sunday final. See the updated bracket.

Soven Starts '08 Season With Another Win

This weekend the world's top pro wakeboarders battled it out on the waters of Dallas Landing Park in Acworth, GA at the first stop of the 2008 Pro Wakeboard Tour. The top-four riders in the Pro Men's Division took to the water for the final heat of the contest, where all eyes were on Rusty Malinoski (CAN), Phillip Soven (USA), Adam Errington (SCT) and JD Webb (USA). All four riders had a killer showing in the finals, but in the end, Team Malibu rider and reigning tour champion Phillip Soven posted a 92.50 to claim the top spot in the contest and became the first rider on Tour to win back-to-back contests in Acworth. Webb, Malinoski and Errington rounded out the competition respectively. "All those guys stomped some killer tricks out there, not making it easy on me at all," said Soven. "I was just dialed-in on my final run and came out with a win."

Boating and Good Friends Help Heal.

Sure boating and water sports are fun and we have seen these hobbies bring families closer, but can these pastimes actually help heal? The Whittet Family is an example of Malibu boat owners who are looking for togetherness on the boat to help their healing process. The Whittets' son Zach passed away in a car accident earlier this year. Together with their friends at the Ski Shack, Greg, Jolie Ann and their six-year-old daughter are throwing themselves into the activity that brought Zach and the entire family so much joy, prior to his death. The Whittet family was new to water sports in 2002. It was during this time they purchased a Malibu boat from the Ski Shack and became a wakeboarding family. There was no one in their family more profoundly affected by their purchase than their son, Zach. He spent every summer since that time wakeboarding. It became his passion and in turn brought the family closer together. "It [wakeboarding] became the defining nature of their family." Malibu's Teed Off and Not Taking It Anymore

Everyone and all organizations alike have been affected by cancer in some way and ,unfortunately, Malibu Boats is no exception. We have lost two members of our family, Becky Sewell and Kathy Anderson to their battles with cancer, but we refuse to loose the fight. These women inspired Malibu as a company to raise money for the American Cancer Society. So every year since their passing we have raised money for the Relay For life. Fund raising efforts have ranged from dunk tanks to Relay For Life teams to selling hot dogs in the factories at lunch. One of the most successful events is our annual golf tournament, which took place this past Saturday. We teed it up to fight cancer at Rancho Del Ray golf course in Atwater, California. 39 teams, 156 people, participated in the 4th Annual Malibu Boats Relay For Life Golf Tournament.

Malibu Mourns Loss of Emily Clothier

Emily Clothier, the 14-year-old daughter of the Western Malibu Boats Sales Manager, Steve Clothier, died Thursday after a snow skiing accident in Lake Tahoe. Emily was a competitive ski racer and was practicing with her coach when she veered off the trail and hit a tree. She was wearing a helmet and was treated at the scene and then flown to Barton Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Emily was a freshman at South Tahoe High and was a member of the school's ski team. She helped the team to a second-place finish at the NIAA State Skiing Championships earlier this month at Mount Rose. She also was a key runner on the freshman cross-country team, helping the Vikings to a ninth-place finish at the Woodbridge Invitational last September. Malibu Boats is sponsoring a nation-wide demo day, April 26th, 2008. Dealers plan to put their Malibu boats where their mouths are across the nation on April 26th. These dealers are sharing the Malibu Difference and exposing boaters to 2008 models. At these events Malibu dealers will demonstrate what the tag line �Pushing Limits� really means. Attendees will have the opportunity to dial-in a custom wake with Rider Presets, meet the massive wakes kicked up by the Patented Power Wedge as well as experience every other innovation offered in the 2008 Malibu line. Talking about six consecutive Boat of the Year Awards might be good enough for some manufacturers, but Malibu Boats is proving their dominance one boater at a time.
