I came across this photo of Zack Efron's head in a jar to be eaten by a panda that I put together. Odd I know, but I got into the spirit of it all over at Cute With Chris and his Panda section. I sent this photo to Chris but it never made it onto his site. I thought it was funny.

How Bizarre by OMC

The summer this song was out was such a blast. I was working full-time at the zoo. I remember Pam, Kim, and I bringing out a 16 ft long Burmese Python at the end of a show. We did a meet and greet with the audience after the show and let guests get up close and personal with very large snake. We were back stage waiting for our queue and we were early. I had the snakes head, the dangerous part, and I held it up and started singing How Bizarre like it was microphone. Love the song, love those good memories. Enjoy How Bizarre!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfJe8hQ8ha0

I Got a New Car

I broke down and got a new car on Friday. I really hate having a car payment and it's been a couple years since I've had one. I had a Kia which had like 130,000 miles on it and I did not do a good job maintaining it and the timing belt broke and it damaged the engine so I junked it. This was back in December when I did not know what my future held. So I bought a used van from my former company for $500. The air conditioning was broken, the wipers only sometimes work, the windows only sometimes go up or down, the radio is on or off with no volume control, it was dented in the back...in short it was a piece of crap. It's hot and rainy season here in Florida and I could not take it any longer. So I bought another Kia, a Rio. Here is what it looks like even this color. It makes me happy!

The Move In Is Complete

So Chase has moved in. Chase was a real trooper and helped us clean our friends house yesterday. He spent 4 hours just making the kitchen sparkle! He's been meeting my friends and they love him. He went around looking for a job today, he's an LPN, and got an interview tomorrow morning already.

My inside panic about how much stuff he was bringing was silly. It's not that I did not want him to bring his stuff with him. It's his stuff and he should have brought it. It was just that he made it sound like he was bringing this huge amount of stuff and I already have a house full of stuff. I've been on my own forever and have been in this house for 8 years which was completely refurnished after the fire in 2004. So I'm thinking we don't need like double of everything or triple of some things. Anyway, it wasn't even that much stuff and it's all fine.

So all in all things seem to be going well so far.

I know I'm a little behind but got back from Mexico late Sunday and was just too tired to do anything Monday after work. So, since I'm still in a Mexico state of mind enjoy a late Music Monday, Juanes singing Me Enamoras. He's so cute and I really like the song. Enjoy!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4P3BQYy4PU4

Happy Labor Day from Mexico

I arrived in Mexico on Saturday afternoon. Margarita picked us up at the airport and took us shopping to stock up. Then off to the condo where Chase, Pam, and Sasha were waiting. Anna and Chino came over and then we all headed to the best bar in all Puerto Morelos, Gioconda where I got to hang with my favorite Florencia. We had martinis and great time then went to Bara Bara. Then home with my wonder man, Chase.

The next day we were supposed to go to the cenote. We were supposed to leave around 11 AM. Everyone was way too hung over and we did not hear from Margarita and Florencia. Then around 1 PM Florencia came over and was ready for cenote but no one else wanted to go at that point. I really wanted to go and Florencia was going with her family but no one else wanted to go and I wanted to stay with the group and be diplomatic. So I did not get to go or show Chase, but next time no matter what I'm getting him to the cenote, he has to see it. I really hope Florencia was not upset because she really was ready to go but everyone else was so blah and hung over.

Later that day Chase, Skot, and I went down to the square to see the fish coming in from the fishing festival. It was fun and Skot snapped this photo of Chase and I... more Mexico adventures to come...

The Davids battled it out on American Idol tonight. David Archuleta just annoys me even though he has an incredible voice. At first I thought he was mildly retarded but realized he's just sheltered and shy and immature. He's 17 but he acts like he's 12 to me. Anyway, I just like the musical taste of Cook better. Here is Cooks' first song, I voted several times.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bah4umJfgHg

On The Cell Phone In The Store

I have a cell phone. Sometimes I use it when in a store but we are talking like a non-intrusive call like this:

"Hi Mom. I'm at the store buying a give for nephew 1. What size should I get. OK, thanks. Talk to you later."

I never do this:

"And then Steve was so fucked up he didn't even know the name of that tramp he when home with..."

Why do people think that they need scream into their cell phones while shopping and let everyone else in the area in on their half of the conversation? It drives me crazy. I mean these people simply have no manners! The worse thing to me is when they go to the check out, especially at the grocery store. They can't be bothered to put down their stupid phones for a few minutes to interact with the human being ringing up their order. I just find this to one of the most rude cell phone behaviors. I just want to tell the rude person to put down their damn phone and pay attention to the person trying to assist them. It just really pisses me off.

This is my rant for the day.

American Idol 2008 Final 2

So tonight on American Idol it was a 1 hour show that should have taken like 10 min. Why did they have to drag it out for an hour? The final 3 as any Idol fan knows are the two Davids and Syesha.

I don't really care for Syesha as she seems rather full of her self. I think she'd be good on Broadway. Now, David A. has an incredible voice. We all know that but he annoys me. He acts like a 13 year old not a 17 year old. I just want to smack him and be like act your age. David C. has always been a dark horse to me and I hope it takes it. So in about another painful 10 min we should know who is in the final two...

And the final two are... David A. and David C. I'll be voting for David C.

I am Now Half of a Couple

So, everything went beyond well with Chase over the weekend. Fate has brought back to me the only man I ever truly loved. There was always affection, admiration, and love for him in my heart but that was the past I never thought I would get chance to see him again. But when we started talking a few weeks ago it all felt so good and I was like a school boy with a dream. Well, when he got here it was just magical to see him. He looks wonderful and healthy and happy.

I showed him some of Naples and we had so many long and wonderful conversations. It all leads to one thing. We want to build a life together. So in two weeks he’s going to Mexico with me. I can’t wait for him to see it. I know he will fall in love the charm, beauty, and people of my little town. Then two weeks after that he’s moving to Florida and in with me and we are going to start that life together as partners.

He got to meet Skot, Michael, Jeannie, and Pamela. They all really liked him and the way we were together. On Sunday, he came with me to brunch at a county club with Skot and his family for Mother’s Day. His sisters and Michael were there. It was a really fun time and again, I think they all really like Chase.

We’ve already been talking about important things; kids, money, equality, moving to Mexico, mutual respect. He has started looking for job, he is an LPN working on his RN. There are plenty of jobs down here so I’m sure he’ll have no trouble finding one. All lights are green and we a go for launch! Even though it’s only 2 weeks until I see him and then 2 weeks after that for him to move here it feels like an eternity. In the end I hope and think it will go fast.

I just don’t know what to say. Words can’t express how I feel. I’m happy, excited, and in love. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect this nor did I know I could feel this way again. I will do my best to be kind, respectful, and loving to Chase and I know he will do the same for me. In my heart I know this is it, this is the person with whom I’m destined to explore life. I can’t wait to see what our future holds.

Martini Dan is Back

I've never really had a problem with GoDaddy until this past 5 days or so. They just turned off my blog, said it has expired because I did not renew. Well that was not true. But what happened next was no less than 6 e-mails to support as I had to jump through the various hoops of fire to get my blog reinstated and restored from backup. It has been a total pain in the neck but it's back up and running and seems to have had everything restored.

Can we rekindle love? Can I do it or am I living in the memories and feelings of the past? My love from my past is back in my life. C and I spend hours upon hours on the phone, IM chatting, text messages. It all feels so comfortable and relaxed and familiar. We both feel like we are falling for each other again, as those feelings never really left. We still have a chemistry (even over the phone) that you just can't fake.

C is coming to visit me next weekend. One of two things is going to happen. I am or we are going to fall for each other instantly and if we do I'm jumping in feet first this time. The other thing that could happen is that when we see each other in person again for the first time in years that there will be no chemistry and maybe we'll be friends.

But my heart...my heart and mind and soul are already feeling something I haven't felt is such a long time. I know he feels it to. It feels like this is fate. I loved C and then I hurt him and me. I find him on the internet and apologize for all those years ago. We start talking and turns into the above. We are both single at this point in our lives. I think we are single for a reason and we have found each other at this point in our lives for a reason. He's feeling the same way. But we're both afraid to really say it.

I'll update on this wonderful situation after C's visit. Until then I'll just enjoy the taste of love.

Is Love In The Air

Last week I posted this entry about making amends. I heard back from C a couple days later. We e-mailed back and fourth. We had a brief phone conversation on Thursday. Then on Saturday we talked for 6 ½ hours, then 3 ½ hours Sunday, then 3 hours last night. He is single. I am single. We both feel like this is fate, brining us back together for something. It may be nothing or it may be the rebirth of romance. We are making plans to see each other and see if this chemistry and excitement and we are both feeling is real. We both feel so comfortable and easy with each other. We can’t wait to see where this leads. I’ll update as this story unfolds.

Florida Anti-gay Marriage Amendment

Florida will have an issue on the ballot in November which is to vote for or against adding an amendment to the Florida State Constitution to ban gay marriage. The local paper, the Naples Daily News, ran a story on their FRONT page about a local Baptist church that held a rally in support of the amendment.

The main speaker at the event senior church Pastor Hayes Wicker who said “This is a tremendous social crisis, greater even than the issue of slavery.” Without such an amendment or a law, Wicker said, it could lead to legal marriages in Florida between “man and dog” and “father and child.”

OK. So now the news paper in the town in which I live has run a front page story with words equating gay couples getting married to a bigger issue than slavery, being involved in bestiality, and incestuous marriages?

Give me a freaking break! I am outraged by the stupidity and narrow mindedness of these folks. I'm not sure what I'm doing about this yet but I can't keep quit about this. I know I will be writing a latter to the editor and I'm going to have to find someway to protest both the paper for printing such inflammatory and hateful words and the church. You can find the store here.

Thanks to the Internet I've just made contact with a man from my past. The very first and probably the only man I've ever loved. I wrote about him back in this post.

I found him on the Web but was not sure it was him. I sent him a message not knowing what to expect. Was it C? Will he remember me? Will he want to have contact with me? Well, the next day I got a message back and it was C. He said he was surprised and happy to hear from me. He wanted to know what has happened in my life since we last spoke some 14 years ago. I sent back a message, a few paragraphs with the short version of how I ended up in Florida, what's been going on, and so fourth. I had to get it out in the open that I was sorry for my behavior when we last saw each other. I asked that he too write back and tell me all about what he's been up to as well. I have him my real e-mail address and cell phone number.

It would be so cool if after all this time and over the distance (he still lives in the North) if we could reconnect and be friends. Whatever happens I am happy to have this opportunity.

Are You a Friend of Dorothy

"Are you a friend of Dorothy?" The phrase dates back to at least World War II, when homosexual acts were more widely illegal in the USA. Stating that, or asking if, someone was a "friend of Dorothy" was a euphemism used for discussing sexual orientation without others knowing its meaning. Why do I bring this up?

At my new job at a company I once worked at for 7 years the question will come up. There are a few people that still work there from when I did last time. We've kept in touch and are good enough friends that they know me well enough to know I'm gay.

It's not like I try to hide it and in the end I don't care that people know but I've never defined my life by being a gay man. I'm proud and happy with who I am and that I'm gay but being gay is only one of many sides of who I am. I am a man, I'm a mut with German, Irish, British, and Checkoslovakian grandparents, I'm a sci-fi geek, I love music, I'm a Libra, and yes I'm gay.

The group of people that make up my team at work are all people that I've never worked with before and I know that sooner or later questions will come or the whispers of others will get back to me and the time will come when others will want to know, am I a friend of Dorothy?

Hell yeah and proud of it.

April Fools Day 2008

I wanted to do something fun for April Fools' Day, either here on the blog or in real life. The problem is time. I don't have it right now. Been in and will be in an 8 day training class at work. Had most of the class over for authentic Cuban pork and black beans/rice on Sunday. Drank too much, had a good time. A local food chain called SweetBay had a bunch of their customer's credit card/debit card info stolen, including mine. Lots of fraudulent charges on my card in Maryland. Too much TIME required to get it fixed. Of course I'm taking the time to get it all fixed but it's a pain and takes more of my time that I don't have. So anyway... I will post when I can this week and here is yesterday's Music Monday. Come Undone by Duran Duran because it fits me this week and I love the lyrics and sound.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFbDhbl3QPY

My Amerdian Idol 2008 Top 10 Recap

I think this is one of the most talented seasons of this show. It's hard to even pick the top but we all have our favorites. And goodness knows I can't carry a tune! But here is what I think about what is the current top 10...

Ramiele Malubay – I like her there is just something cute about her personality but so far she has not pulled it out. I would like to see more of that big voice and more of a stage presence.

Jason Castro – At first I really like him but now I just find him OK but like a one trick pony so now I’m bored.

Syesha Mercado – She sings well but I think she should stick with modeling.

Chikezie – At first I was not a fan but then he did some great stuff until last night. Last night was on the boring side. He should stick with the upbeat mixes.

Brooke White – She’s pretty good and I think will do well in out there in the industry but I don’t think she’s got what it takes to win the title.

Michael Johns – I really like him but too me he should not be on this show. He and his band The Rising was already signed and dropped by Madonna’s record label. He’s had his chance.

Carly Smithson – Like her a lot but she too me she too already had her chance. She was signed by MCA which spent over $2 Million on her album and then dropped her when it did not sell.

David Archuleta – The kid has a voice and I hope he does well. He did win Star Search in 2003.

Kristy Lee Cook – She’s just OK to me but a good marketing package. However, she’s already had her shot too. She was signed by Brittney Spears’ production company in 2001.

David Cook – This guy is incredible and I think he has a shot at taking the title!

All Fluff and No Substance

I still don't get the whole Barack Obama thing. I have tried to read more about him. I have tried to listen to him speak, which is not an easy task for me because I can't stand his speaking style...he sounds like a preacher to me. The more I try to learn the more I find that he really is all fluff and no substance. I keep hearing change, change, change...but no plan to make change happen, no clear idea of what change actually is. In the end as hard as I look I just can't find anything about Barack Obama that makes me interested in him and his lack of substance.

I first saw this on Brian's' blog and then went to Untitled Chad Darnell Project who started 12 of 12. I missed last month because of everything that went on with Yuli. So, here is March 2008's 12 of 12....

I started my day by inspecting my snap dragon flowers. I love snap dragons and I need to do some plucking.

Off to work. We have 3 buildings here in Naples, two of which are twins connected with a ground floor
covered outdoor walkway.

Then it's off to work. Our building is secure, it matches your finger print to your security badge to get in the door.
You need your badge to call the elevator or go to the bathroom. You get use to it after a while.

My office. It's just grand. I have not really personalized it yet, not sure that I will.

Hey Toad, please hold all my calls.

I don't have a window office but my friend does so I snapped a photo of her view.

I went through the McDonalds drive-through for an Asian salad with grilled chicken to eat at the beach.

Next it was a quick stop at Wild Oats for some organic gluten-free food for the week.

Salad and the beach for sunset.

Sometimes I forget how lucky I am to be so close to beautiful white sand beaches.

Got home and had to snap a photo of Yuli. So glad she's alive and well.

It's only fair that Sassy (my cat) get in on the act so we took our photo together.

The Return of Yuli

It's a freaking miracle! Somehow I got my dog (Yuli) back today. After over 4 weeks she's back. In my head I had given up hope of ever seeing her again. But in my heart I could not give up. Today I checked the Domestic Animal Control (DAC) Website like I've done every day. I saw a dog that was picked up yesterday and it looked like Yuli. I called and gave them her microchip number. It matched. I went to get my little girl.

She is a little thiner than when I last saw her but other than that she seems good. So I now think that she must have been taken by someone and she finally escaped from them.

The DAC staff took me back to see her. I went into her kennel and she looked at me. Then she kept sniffing me and pushing her nose against me. It was like she could not believe that I was there. When she realized it was real was all over me for like 10 minutes. We came home and she took a nap. She does seem tired, she's been through a lot lately. We went to Skot's and Mike's for dinner and so they could visit with her as well. She's sleeping again now. In a little bit Yuli, Sassy (my cat) and l will go bed and start to get our lives back to normal.

I'm so happy!

Massive Power Outage in South Florida

I was at work today and the power went out. We have back up generators so most of our systems were working but no lights in my office. Millions of people were without power, but I never lost power at my house. The local news said "Thousands of electric customers in various parts of Southwest Florida lost power Tuesday afternoon as part of the outage that affected a million or more customers in Florida. While the outage affected some areas of Collier and south Lee counties, in other areas just down the road it was life and business as usual..." If you want you can read the story in the Naples Daily News.

Ode to Yuli

So I've been rather absent for the past couple of weeks. I've done nothing other than going to work. I don't feel like eating, I can't sleep, I don't feel like cleaning, or running errands, and I've neglected this blog.

I don't know for sure what has happened to my dog for sure but at this point I have to think she is not coming back. Even worse I have an idea that my little girl has been abducted. Three dogs disappeared from Skot's neighborhood in a 10 day period. I put up 2 sizes of posters, fliers on mailboxes, and searched every day for over a week. I've checked the shelters and everything else. Not even a sign of her. So I'm afraid that she was abducted and sold for either medical or cosmetic experiments. It sounds so bizarre to me but it does happen and this entire thing is so unreal and unlike her. I just pray that she is not suffering.

So, I'm trying to get back to normal now but it's not easy. In the back of my mind and in my heart I will always think she's coming back. But I haven't put up her dishes or her toys but I will do that tomorrow. It just kills me on the inside to think about any of this and this is one of the hardest posts I've ever written. Maybe sometime in the future I can post so photos of Yuli but for now it's just too painful.

My mood today is not good, update on my dog, Yuli, tomorrow. So here is a Human League 2-for-1 Music Monday. I love this first song (Keep Feeling) Fascination. The song is good but boy those 80 styles...wow. And too much makeup. Glad I never got into the men wearing makeup thing. Anyway, enjoy!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aIPKcLZOe0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5g_vfCF9sw

Night 4 Still No Yuli

I am physically and emotionally exhausted. Monday through tonight I have been searching for my dog. I have been checking our domestic animal services every two hours. There are posters on all the streets around where Yuli was last seen. We put little fliers on all the mail boxes on Skot and Mike's street. Every day after work I am driving and walking and searching.

Yesterday some nasty little teenager left me a voice message that my dog was dead, splattered across the road which was checked out within minutes after the call and it was just a prank. Nasty, cruel child.

I just found out I can put a free ad in the local paper about a lost dog which I will do tomorrow.

I just hope and pray for her wellbeing and that I get to see her again soon.

My Dog is Gone

Last week I was in Maryland Monday through Thursday. My friends watched my dog. I picked her up Thursday and dropped her back off there Saturday afternoon so I could work at Disney World Saturday and Sunday. I worked late and did not get home until 2:30 AM Sunday night. So I went to my full-time job yesterday and then after work went to my friends to pick up my dog (Yuli). A not so great photo of her is below.

I walked in the house and I asked my friends how they were doing. Not well they responded. Then they told me that Yuli was in the back yard with Michael and she was playing with their dog V when all of a sudden they took off through a breach in the fence into the neighbors yard. Michael went after them but they were gone. He looked everywhere and called for them and V came back but Yuli did not. So they had to tell me that my dog was gone.

This is shocking and odd. First of all my dog does not like to be outside unless she is with someone. My back yard is fenced and she won't play in the yard unless I'm with her. She goes out to do her business on her own but won't play alone. Then there is the fact that she is already 8 years old which is mid-life. She's never done anything like this and has never tried to run away. I never worry about such things. Then there is the fact that she's really afraid of her own shadow, so she's not the type to run off through the woods on her own.

Last night I went up and down their street and the street on either side of them calling out her name and searching. She does have a microchip the back of her neck. I checked via phone and in person after work at our county's Domestic Animal Services (DAS) and the Humane Society. She was not caught or turned in to either. She is now on file and I can check our county's website for hourly updates on stray dogs brought in or captured by DAS. Last night we printed fliers and put them at the ends of all 3 streets. Tonight I made 200 more fliers and Michael is going to tape them to the mailboxes along each street tomorrow morning.

I am just beside myself. I've done everything I possibly can. I've been over at my friends house late in the hopes that Yuli would come back. I just love her so much and I can't even think about this because it makes me want to cry...

I am happy to be at my new new job. It's funny because I had already worked for this company for 7 years. I was laid off during the worse year of my life. Then 3 years later I'm back. So they sent me away already after just 3 days. I'm with a couple of coworkers in a very cold Northern state (all states on the East coast are North of Florida and colder too). It was last minute for me so this is the seat I got on the plane. It was this little seat in the very last row against the wall with no window and it was odd...

It was not too great but the hotel is nice enough... if only I had Mr. Dyer from the last Thirsty Thursday to share my king size bed...

But I digress... I will try to get some sleep tonight and then tomorrow I will do observing and assisting with training. Sleep...

Do you shave? I have to admit I keep my area neatly trimmed and the balls bald. I don't remember why this came up but the result was I found these two videos. They just cracked me up. The first one about nose and ear hair really had me going. Even clicking on the interactive Second Puberty brochure to see of the 5 stages. The body hair one with the guy talking about shaving everything is funny too. You need to check it out here at the Philips Norelco Website. They are a little long but entertaining. Enjoy!

So I took a new job with an Internet software company. After one week I quit. I was riddled with guilt but I was offered a job at another company with which I was interviewing. My new, new job pays much more and includes travel all over the world. I really think it was the travel that got me. I love to travel and see different cities and countries. The new new job starts mid-week.

My New Obsession - IKEA

I have discovered the world of and it is very dangerous.

Skot and his mom picked me up from the airport Sunday in Ft. Lauderdale. There is a new IKEA there, it's been there maybe 3 months. I have never been in one as this is the first one in Florida. Pammy and Skot took me to the airport and then went to IKEA. When Skot told his mom about it she really wanted to go which is why we all went after they picked me up.

I did not know there were so many things for my home that I could just not live without. I bought a cool wall mounted utensil holder that is magnetic, a really neat napkin holder, some very cool contemporary lights, and some other things. I spent more than I should have and I only got a fraction of the items that I went "Oh cool" as we walked through this mammoth shopping environment.

Damn you IKEA, I'm hooked!

Some Things are Beautiful and Some Things Suck

I don't know if words and pictures can due justice to the way I feel but over the next week there will be a couple of posts that will attempt to explain it. I go home tomorrow, back to Florida and I start a new job on Monday. I should be and happy about the new job but my heart aches.

There is something about Puerto Morelos and the people here. Sure there is physical beauty all around with the white sand beaches, blending shades of the Caribbean sea, and tropical flora. There is also poverty from people living in small shakes and a standard of living that is very different from that of the USA. However, I see far more happiness than I see in the USA so the US standard of living and never ending drive to make more money and to have more things surly is lacking compared to true happiness.

So here is the thing. I worked my ass off tonight at Gioconda. Then Florencia, Anna, and I went to a local bar Bara Bara. When my time to go came I accept it but it is very sad. My heart aches and I long for the next time that I get to come to Puerto Morelos and I have not even left yet. My house can not sell soon enough, I cannot come back soon enough, I cannot see my friends here again soon enough. No this place is not perfect and I see it for it's good and it's bad but my heart and my soul are drawn here from the very first time and I know this is where I belong. And when I am not here a part of my very being is missing and my soul mate and I long for to be reunited. I hope these words can at least begin to explain how I feel...

Sebastián Rulli

Since I'm in Mexico I thought I should feature a Latino or Mexican guy for this weeks Thirsty Thursday. Sebastián Rulli has a nice body and fits the mold perfectly. I think I like him better when his built chest is not shaven but either way crackers in bed are fine. Enjoy!

Hola From Mexico Again

It's been a whirlwind of a week so far. Today I am Villas Playasol where my condo is located but I am staying in the unit above my unit which is owned by my friends' brother. There is a strong cold front coming through here and it is very windy and chilly. I wore a sweater out tonight. I made dinner, ate, went to Gioconda, had a drink, served a couple drinks, then went to Posada Amor and had a drink then went and saw some friends at the bookstore to make plans for tomorrow night. They are going to swing by Gioconda after they close tomorrow for a martini.

My friend Anna is trying to hook me up with a guy. He is cute enough and he seems nice. I'm just not sure but will know more tomorrow. She said he is totally smitten with me which blows my mind. I still don't think physically I'm anything to look at. I hope as I continue to loose weight and live gluten-free I will look good again. Anyway, it feels nice to think someone is interested. Will of course post if my drought ends!

Ringing In The New Year

Well hello 2008! As we crossed over from 2007 to 2008 I was at Gioconda in Puerto Morelos, Mexico. We were making a special champagne martini for the event. It was made with raspberry vodka, creme de casiss, and champagne. They were very tasty and a big hit. The bar was not too busy last night and so we drank too many martinis. Then we went to the beach where there was a big concert, 2 reggae bands and a house music DJ. There was also a party on the beach friend of a friend type thing. There was bonfire and music and dancing on the beach. So after we rang in the new year with all the hugs and kisses and wishes for a happy new year we went to the party...then to the concert...then back to the party. It was about 2:30 AM today that I went to bed.

Today I got to have pork with a coin cooked in the pot for lunch. My family which was passed on for generations always has pork on New Years day as it is supposed to bring good luck for the new year. Also you cook the meat with a coin in the pot to bring prosperity for the year. I really wanted a hamburger and fries (no bun) to help with the hangover but could not find an open restaurant. I went with my friend Anna to where she works at Posada Amor and the family was making pork and Anna put a coin in the pot for me. Then Anna and her boyfriend and I had pork and salad. It was wonderful and the family at Posada Amor was very kind to help us on quest to find food and for it to be pork and for the coin to go in the pot.

Then we went back to the house where Anna is house sitting and went swimming. Tonight I will go to Gioconda for a while to help Florencia if it gets busy but I think I may have chicken enchiladas at Posada Amor for dinner as they are the best enchiladas in all of Puerto Morelos...then have a drink with Anna then back to Gioconda then to bed. My condo has been rented and Florencia has been kind enough to allow me to say with her. It has been very nice but tomorrow I get to use our condo for the remainder of the week. I have to find my way to the market to get some chicken and stuff and will make dinner for Florencia one night. I know she has to work but I will take it to her. That's my long post about this year. I hope your New Year started off great too and lasts the entire year!

I Got A New Job

After more months than I care to think about suffering in a job that was really beginning to feel like hell I did something about it. We are a point where we can barely make payroll and it took from Thanksgiving to Christmas for me to get paid when I am supposed to be paid bi-weekly. So I decided to seriously look for a job. I was seriously looking at 3 companies. I had some phone interviews and in-person interviews and in the end accepted a job as a Project Manager at a local Internet software company.

My last day at my current job is this Friday. Then it’s a week in Mexico at the condo and I start my new job on Monday the 7th. I’m excited and nervous about the new job. Excited because it’s close to home, pays well, has good benefits, and is something I will really enjoy doing. Nervous because it’s something new for me, new products, new people, new processes and procedures. I’m also nervous because one of the other companies are still perusing me and the starting pay would be 30% more than what I’ve accepted. I don’t want to take a job and then quit a week later because I got a better offer. I just don’t feel right about that. I also don’t want to rule out the other job because it’s a lot of money and travel to places all over the world and I love travel. Life is never easy but in the end I’m happy.

Christmas Recap

Christmas is over and for the fist time over I’ve actually taken down Christmas in my house before New Year’s Day. I never take down Christmas before New Year’s Day but this year I’m going to Mexico before the New Year and tonight and tomorrow are the only nights I had before I go. It feels weird. Tomorrow I’m rushing home from work and doing the outside.

I had a very nice Christmas. For Christmas Eve I went to a party at the home of a member of my adopted Cuban family. Man do I love the Cuban food at these parties. It’s all so good and different than what I grew up with. The party was great. It’s always fun to hang with my family away from my family.

Christmas morning I called my family up North and we exchanged gifts over the phone. Then Skot and Mike came over for breakfast and to exchange gifts. I made a huge breakfast like my Grandmother use to make, eggs, fried potatoes, fried apples, bacon, sausage, homemade biscuits (gluten-free toast for me), homemade jam, and fresh ground coffee. Then later we went to Skot’s sisters’ house for dinner with his family and more gifts.

It was wonderful, everyone was so kind and everyone seemed to like the gifts I gave as I enjoyed all the gifts I received. I really enjoy giving gifts much more than receiving. I just love making someone happy. But the most important part for me is the traditions and being with friends and family and enjoying all that great company and food.

Stress of No Paydays

I have been so busy and stressed. I have not had a paycheck since late November. Yes, it's been a month since my last paycheck. I should get paid tomorrow and a second check next week. Tomorrow's deposit will go through but I don't know about next week. The good news is that I've been interviewing late last week and this week and I have hope that something new career wise will come my way soon.

I still have some holiday shopping to finish up. I've been putting it off until I got paid. Needed to save what money I have for bills just in case payday did not come...ever. Sooner or later it won't come and I keep telling everyone they need to have their backup plan but people seem to just be holding out hope that a Christmas miracle will keep our company alive.

I made some homemade gluten-free Christmas sugar cookies and they turned out very good. I took some to work and someone even asked for the recipe.

Well it's kinda of a boring update but that's all I have for now. Keep your fingers crossed for a good new job.
