Project Homeless

Project Homeless is a local ministry of Ed Calton and St. Marks Episcopal Church. Ed and fellow volunteers drive to downtown Indianapolis twice a week, seek out homeless folks wherever they can find them and give them sack lunches, bottled water, and other necessities.

Mr. Calton's own recent experience with homelessness inspired him to reach out to others. Project Homeless attracted the attention of local media recently in The Flyer's "Helping the Homeless."

Here's how you can donate to Project Homeless: Beginning in April, a Giving Tree will be located in the library’s entrance. The Giving Tree is decorated with stars labeled with needed donations. Pick a star off the tree, pick up the item labeled on the star the next time you go shopping, and bring the item to the library on your next visit. It's that easy to make a difference.

The Road to Guantanamo

Sponsored by Amnesty International and winner of the 2006 Berlin Film Festival, The Road to Guantanamo is the terrifying first-hand account of three British citizens who were held for two years without charges in the American military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The film has been a cause for dialogue and controversy because of its audacious and accurate portrayal of life in Guantanamo.

Join us in library meeting room McMillan B for a special screening of The Road to Guantanamo on Monday, March 19 at 6:15 p.m. Admission is free but registration is required. Attendees must be age 17 +. Register online at www.plainfieldlibrary.net now to reserve your seat.

Barnes & Noble Bookfair

Pick up a bookfair voucher at multiple locations within the library. Don't forget to pick up vouchers for your friends and family too!
Shop at the Metropolis Barnes & Noble on Saturday, November 18 and Sunday, November, 19 between 9am and 11pm.
A percentage of net sales will be donated to the Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library.

Boo! at the Library

Drop in for this after hours event! Activities include storytelling, crafts, and treats. Families are encouraged to bring items for local food banks. Costumes optional, and preregistration not required. Sponsored by Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home.
