  What is the island? Years ago, the writers had teased us and hinted that it might not in actuality be an island. Things got more exciting a few weeks ago when Kristin of Eonline told us that the island could be described by a 4 letter word with no A's and no E's After running a word find program for Scrabble players, I discovered that there were over 1500 such words in the English language. One word stood out immediately and I knew the answer. The island is a... HOOT aka something or someone uproariously funny or absurd. Amazingly, this theory was bolstered when Kristin later added that the word contained the letter O.

  Of course, it could be another word entirely. Here are a few words to think about: moon, door, town, soul, bomb, show (like The Truman Show?), loop, buoy, book, undo... and here's a very interesting and somewhat obscure word: odyl: a hypothetical force formerly held to pervade all nature and to manifest itself in magnetism, mesmerism, chemical action, etc. Is the island a power that permeates the whole of nature?

  If I had to guess, I'd say that it's a door that leads to an alternate reality.

  Some of our long lost friends really are returning. According to EW.com:
  Maggie Grace, who played Shannon on Lost, will return to the ABC drama later this season, executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse confirmed to Entertainment Weekly's EW.com. "We're really excited about having her back on the show," says Cuse, "and we have a good story for her."

  Harold Perrineau, Cynthia Watros, and Rebecca Mader are among the other dearly departed who will guest-star in Lost's sixth and final season.

Jorge Garcia Has a New Podcast

Jorge Garcia (Hurley on LOST) is recording a very enjoyable (for us LOST fans) podcast called Geronimo Jack's Beard. Jorge and his sidekick Bethany James Leigh Shady discuss the scripts as they receive them. There are absolutely no spoilers since the podcasts are not aired live and the recordings are not released until after the show airs.

Jorge is quite possibly the funniest actor on LOST. Hearing on the set stories from his point of view is a lot of fun and it's free of charge as well!

  MM: After 'NotLocke' (aka the Smoke Monster) orchestrated Jacob's death, why didn't he just turn around and kill Ben?

  ME: That's a good question and I wondered it myself. But there is a reason why he can't do that.

  MM: Does Ben suspect he has done a bad thing by killing Jacob?

  ME: I really don't think Ben indulges in regrets. We've seen him make huge, possibly bad choices all through his life, but he just keeps moving forward. It may not be a good trait, but it is his.

As of this writing, there is an interesting auction on eBay. Sterling Beaumon, (who plays 'young Ben' on LOST) with help from the people at the LOST writer's office, is donating real LOST memorabilia to benefit two charities: the Starlight Chlidren's Foundation and LA's Best.

Think about a few things when you place your bid. The Ben bobble-head doll isn't just a Ben bobble-head doll; it's Young Ben's Ben Bobble Head Doll!! Also, the signed script is a real gem. Any LOST fan or aspiring writer will treasure it and it's authenticity is verified by a letter of authenticity signed by a representative of Variety. William Atherton to Guest Star on LOST

��In addition, Jon Lachonis at TV OverMind tells us that we will see Atherton as a high school principal and speculates that we may see Dr. Arzt (Dan Roebuck) again! Many will remember Atherton from the Val Kilmer movie: Real Genius.

Kim Dickens on FlashForward

Several months ago, I spoke to someone closely involved with the production of LOST. "Hey!" I said. "You know what LOST fans would really like to see? - A show completely different from LOST, but with all of the same actors!"

He laughed, of course, and went on to say that the contract negotiations would be horrendous! Months later, I'm very pleased with the new show: FlashForward. It has that feel of mystery that draws other LOST fans to it and we're starting to see some of our LOST actors join the show. Sonya Walger (also plays Penny Widmore) has been with FlashForward since the first episode and now we are seeing Kim Dickens (plays Cassidy in LOST) playing the part of Aaron's ex-wife. At some point, we'll be seeing a lot of Dominic Monaghan in FlashForward. LOST fans may be getting our wish afterall.

Michael Emerson Wins an Emmy!

  So many of us were hoping that Michael Emerson would win the best supporting actor award and last night (Sunday, Sep 20) he pulled it off. He gave a short speech while his wife, Carrie Preston, looked very happy. Carlton Cuse could also be seen in the audience. Naturally, he was all smiles. LOST didn't win for best drama, but this was still a very good night for Michael Emerson and by extension, LOST.

  From USA Today:

   Lost's Michael Emerson, who won for best supporting actor, was thankful for a guest role he said turned into the job of a lifetime. "It's so unlikely, but I suppose it's the only way I would end up being a regular on a popular TV show," he said. "I never seem to do anything the sort of regular way, and that makes it even sweeter."

LOST in Iran

  Here's a great Comic-Con video from EW.com! Elizabeth Mitchell is sitting with the cast of V and Morena Baccarin (of FireFly fame!) is sitting next to her. There is also some LOST discussion and Mitchell confirms that she will be back on LOST for an unspecified number of episodes. She also credits the fans and explains that the producers do listen to fans of the show.

Guess Who's Returning to LOST!

There was some more big news from ComicCon yesterday (Saturday). It looks like a real fan favotite will be returning to LOST in Season 6. There are few details available, but at a panel for the CW series, Vampire Diaries, Ian Somerhalter was asked whether he would return for LOST's final season and this was his answer:

The Emmy Awards ceremony will take place on September 20 and LOST is still up for the Outstanding Drama category. Now we know the 6 LOST episodes that have been submitted for consideration. They are as follows:

She's a nice girl, but occasionally drops an F-bomb or two during the conversation.   I kind of didn't want it. I actually said, "That seems like a really crap script." Because we never saw the entire script, just little pieces. It was a plane crash on a desert island. I thought, "Oh give me a break. A dramatic Gilligan's Island." Turns out it was smegging brilliant.

Still Time to See Young Ben on Stage

For LOST fans, there's still time to catch Sterling Beaumon (Young Ben on LOST) at the El Centro Theatre in Hollywood. He plays the part of Josh's friend Billy in the musical adaptation of the Tom Hanks movie: BIG, and the reviews of Sterling's performances are good.

Elizabeth Mitchell with LOST in 2010!

  According to TVGuide.com, Steve McPherson (ABC's entertainment president) stated that Elizabeth Mitchell will be seen on both LOST and the new remake of V next year!



  Will we see her in more than a few flashbacks? Many people thought that Desmond was a goner when he turned the failsafe key. Incredibly, Season 5 ended much like Season 2 with Juliet in the place of Desmond. Was it another failsafe event? What would have happened if Juliet did not set off the nuclear device? Would "the incident" have been a bigger disaster? Can we guess what the writers are thinking? Probably not - but we can try!

  (1) The island is vaporized and Season 6 is one big flashback. (not likely)

  (2) Juliet triggered some kind of reset or failsafe and Hurley finds her naked in the woods. (this one seems more likely)

  (3) Juliet finds herself in a parallel universe with William Bell.

  Season 6 is bound to be unpredictable! Let the countdown begin!

The LOST Weekend Fan Party 2009 With Flashbacks

  The LOST Weekend Fan Party of 2009 in Los Angeles is underway and it's heaven for LOST fans. It's a world where everyone speaks the language of LOST. We go up the elevator, we go down the elevator. Flashbacks, flashforwards, flashes of light, puzzling nosebleeds and Roger Linus - they're all parts of the LOST lexicon and we all speak the language.

  During the pre-party, I found myself talking to LOST fan Kerry. Even though she had recently dislocated her shoulder in a terrifying LOST Fan Party mishap, her enthusiasm regarding the upcoming arrival of our favorite writer, Javier Grillo-Marxuach, was not dampened. She spoke of the season 1 episode All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues written by Javi. We both agreed that the best scene in television history would have to be during that very episode when Jack valiantly tried to revive Charlie in spite of Kate's very emotional cries for him to stop because he's not.... The resolution is something that no one will ever forget. Her description of the scene was so moving that I found it difficult to answer. Shortly thereafter, LOST organizer Brigit asked me if I was having a good time. I'm having a blast! I replied. That's when I heard the whoosh sound and I stared into space.

  I was back in 2007 at the LOST Weekend pre-party speaking to LOST fan Carri from Maryland as she described her favorite LOST episode called Numbers. She talked about the scene where the French Lady agreed with Hurley that the numbers were indeed cursed. Hurley was so overcome that he gave her a big hug in spite of the fact that everyone else was still afraid of the rifle-toting French woman. Carri had the look of someone experiencing a guilty pleasure. It was a cat swallowed the canary sort of look and I understood exactly what she was feeling. Shortly thereafter, Brigit asked me if I was having a good time. Yeah... I'm having a blast! I replied.

They're Eating the Dharma Peanut Butter at EW.com

Jeff Jensen and Dan Snierson are eating the Dharma peanut butter and they're Totally LOST and while they probably wouldn't shoot young Ben, or anyone else for that matter, they're not beyond giving him an atomic wedgie. You might notice that Totally LOST is a spoof of one or more movie critic TV shows, but it's more, of course, because they're LOST fans. When they're not playing crazed LOST fans on Totally LOST, they're probably crazed LOST fans in real life. If you haven't seen them yet, be sure to check them out here and remember drama is easy, but totally deadpan humor is very very hard!

Sterling Beaumon (Young Ben) Answers Fan Questions on LOST.COM

  Yesterday was a fun day. For about 18 minutes I stopped working in the salt mines and called LOST actor Sterling Beaumon on the phone for an arranged interview. It's difficult to hear my part of the conversation since my cell phone was nearly out of range, however Sterling (who plays young Ben on LOST) comes in mostly loud and clear. Tonight's episode (3/18/2009) , Namaste, is the first of a 4 episode character arc involving young Ben. The first 3 episodes are entitled Namaste, He's Our You and Dead is Dead while the title of his 4th episode may possibly be top secret. He confirms the story that an actor revealing show secrets is subject to a 5 million dollar fine and adds that such an actor would no longer appear in the show. Yikes!



  I was pleased to discover that Sterling is a real fan of the show. He checks the message boards and listens to the podcasts like the ABC podcast with writers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. He reveals that he knows writer Damon Lindelof and has met Carlton Cuse. I knew that Lindelof had given him 3 LOST theories while guaranteeing that one of them is actually true. The theories are as follows:
(1) Locke is Ben's Brother
(2) Charlotte is little Annie years later
(3) Miles is the son of Marvin Candle

  Sterling is convinced that theory 1 may actually be valid since John Locke's mother did not die and would be older by the time Ben was born. Both women have the same hair and eye color. We also talked about the fact that both women cried out similarly: Name him John! and Name him Benjamin!

Young Ben: A 4 Episode Character Arc

  LOST fans will be in for quite a treat on March 18 with the airing of the episode entitled 'Namaste.' Sterling Beaumon will reprise his role as 'young Ben Linus' and the episode will actually be the first of a 4 episode character arc that begins with Ben Linus, the sweet little boy. Then something very bad happens and Ben will be affected by a group of people who incredibly are not the Others or Dharma, yet we have seen them! In a TV Guide interview, Sterling mysteriously says that there is one safe place on the island but it isn't Jacob's cabin and it isn't the Hatch.

  If that isn't enough, there's more! According to Watch with Kristin, Sterling says that Ben will [come to] know everything about every little bit about the Island. We're not going to learn more about the past with Dharma, we're going to learn more about the past of the Island.

Another LOST - 24 Connection

  Even though there is only one person in the world named Reiko Aylesworth, it didn't occur to me while watching the episode 'LaFleur' that the Reiko Aylesworth who is playing Amy is also the same Reiko Aylesworth who played Michelle on 24! It was only after reading an article on TV Guide.com, that I came to that sudden realization.

  Of course, it seemed obvious while watching LaFleur the second time. The TV Guide article also tells us that Amy has given birth to someone 'special.' Well, we know it's a boy, so that rules out Kate! (I hope)Hurley looks too much like Cheech. Miles looks too much like Marvin Candle... hmmmm... Ethan Rom, Neil Frogurt? Someone on the board thinks the baby might actually be Sawyer since Sawyer first looked at Amy with a hint of recognition.

  It would certainly be a trip , if Sawyer were to have saved his on mother and thus himself. Episode 10 is an Amy episode and it is entitled He's Our You. It's the sort of thing that makes your brain hurt. Yes - sometimes, it's best just to watch the next episode.

Name the New Space Station Module

  If everything goes according to plan, a new module will be attached to the International Space Station in less than a year. As for now, it doesn't have a name and NASA has asked the public (google the word public relations) to suggest a name for the module.

  Naturally, there is a web site available for the purpose of selecting a name. Notice that one of the ballot options is the name Serenity. I know a lot of LOST fans (myself included) are also fans of the TV show Firefly and the related feature film: Serenity. I voted for Serenity, but there is also a write-in option. Other LOST fans may want to suggest a LOST related name: The Island, The Orchid, The Hatch, Dharma, etc. Remember to vote here!

I receive a lot of video links via email and this one is excellent. It's tastefully done and it's fun to watch. In a word, it's just cool! Show it to all of your friends who haven't seen LOST! The Real Richard Alpert

��We always knew that many of the names on LOST already meant something. The names Locke, Rousseau and Bentham are all names of philosophers. Whenever I heard the name Richard Alpert, I always thought about Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. Incredibly, by pure chance, several days ago I stumbled across the name Richard Alpert while re-reading a book called The Holographic Universe.

��Here's the interesting part:

��... in 1966, the now infamous Harvard psychologist Richard Alpert journeyed to the East to look for holy men who could offer him insight into the LSD experience. He found several who were willing to sample the drug and, interestingly, received a variety of reactions. One pundit told him it was good, but not as good as meditation. Another, a Tibetan lama, complained that it only gave him a headache.
�� But the reaction that fascinated Alpert most came from a wizened little holy man in the foothills of the Himalayas. Because the man was over sixty, Alpert�s first inclination was to give him a gentle dose of 50 to 75 micrograms. But the man was much more interested in one of the 305 microgram pills Alpert had brought with him, a relatively sizable dose. Reluctantly, Alpert gave him one of the pills, but still the man was not satisfied. He remained that way for the rest of the day, his demeanor as serene and unperturbed as it always was, save for the twinkling glances he occasionally tossed Alpert. The LSD apparently had little or no effect on him. Alpert was so moved by the experience he gave up LSD, changed his name to Ram Dass, and converted to mysticism

Postcards from Jater Heaven

I used to think that photography had become a lost art, but that may not be true. There is a very nice photo gallery of Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lilly on EW.com that is enough to remind anyone that photographs can be art.

The name of the photographer is Peggy Sirota and the photos are excellent. If you're part of the Jater fandom, you'll certainly want to check it out.

Rock Star Charlie on Chuck

  There's a very funny show on NBC called 'Chuck' and an interview on TVaholic.com reveals that both Zachary Levi (Chuck) and Joshua Gomez (Morgan) are huge LOST fans. There has also been at least one reference to LOST (flight 815) in the show. So, it's interesting to note that Dominic Monaghan will be playing a rock star in the upcoming February 2 episode of Chuck.

  Are you glad that there have been less middle-of-the-jungle scenes recently? I'm glad I haven't needed to use any insect repellant at work.

   What�s your favorite shooting location?
   To be honest it's the studio. Because they build some really sweet sets on this show. And whenever I work at the studio I always like to explore them and take pictures of myself in them with my phone.

   What can you tell us about Season 5 so far? What can fans look forward to?
   Not much. But it does pick up exactly where we left off in season 4. So I'm right there with Sayid when he sprung me from Santa Rosa. Also for me it's been a parade of costumes. Especially early in the season I go through a bunch of wardrobe changes.

   Is it difficult for you and the other actors to keep up with the complex storylines? How carefully do you have to read every script?
   This season is the hardest to keep up with. They're really out there. I don't scrutinize the scripts too much. But there are times I've gone back to look at older scripts to find information I may have missed.

  Once again, Terry O'Quinn has proved to us why he is such a fan favorite. Recently, Rose, one of the message board contributors to this web site, spotted O'Quinn at the Denver airport. She approached him and reports that he was very kind and gracious. He shook her hand and gave her a hug.



  Hopefully O'Quinn will be spending time in Hawaii. We do know that he recently did an episode with Lance Reddick, so that should be interesting.

Kristin of E! Online has news from the Emmys. During the pre-parties, she reports that Jorge Garcia was shocked when he saw the 1st 5 scripts of Season 5. Daniel Dae Kim also revealed that there were serious consequences to moving the island! Some would suffer physically and others would suffer mentally. Remember, in episode 12, we had the following exchange between Hurley and Ben:

HURLEY: Well, if you could move the island whenever you wanted, why didn't you just move it before the psychos with guns got here?

BEN: Because doing it is both dangerous and unpredictable. It's a measure of last resort.

HURLEY: Awesome.

In an almost completely unrelated Emmy story we learn from the Rocky Mountain News that Emilie de Ravin wore a lovely shade of blue to the event, while the Chicago Tribune described it as an old-ladyish blue number with clunky layers at the bottom. The LA Times liked the emerald-green strapless BCBG and Jimmy Choo shoes that she wore at the pre-party before the big event.

  According to Hollywood Reporter, ABC may soon have a deal to launch a new series based on the above Robert J. Sawyer novel. They're calling it a 'companion' to LOST. Will it air following or preceding LOST? It does seem like a good candidate. Many LOST viewers might easily be attracted to a drama with a sci-fi angle to it.

  Flash Forward would tell the story of a world where a science experiment causes everyone to black out for 2 minutes and seventeen seconds. During the blackout, they have mysterious visions that seem to correspond to future events.

Two New Season 5 Actors

  Shortly after EW.com reported the addition of Zuleikha Robinson to the Season 5 cast, we now learn that the second half of the duo will be played by Sa�d Taghmaoui. Yes - the characters played by these two will have some sort of connection. Taghmaoui plays the part of Caesar - a character who, according to producer Carlton Cuse, will play an important role in the setup for the final act of season 6.

This episode also includes Cheech Marin (plays Hurley's dad) which raises the possibility that Ana Lucia may be appearing in a flashback. Then again, Libby appeared to Michael on the freighter. Doc Jenson is entertaining the idea that Ana Lucia had encountered Miles the psychic back in LA.

New Rebecca Mader Interview

  Almost a year ago, there was much speculation that Kristen Bell of Veronica Mars might be cast as a character by the name of Charlotte on LOST. Now, of course, it's difficult to imagine the part of Charlotte being played by anyone other that Rebecca Mader. Charlotte is the archaeologist who found the Dharma polar bear in Tunisia and later made quite a splash when she arrived on the island.

  Thanks go to TV Guide for providing the video. Mader is a riot. There's a party going on in that redhead brain of hers and it's fun to watch. Now that Kate has returned to civilization, she's hoping that Charlotte sees more of Sawyer. I'm just hoping we see more of Charlotte next year.

I wasn't even looking for Henry Gale. I was looking for an old physics book so I was very surprised to see the name Henry Gale...

but there it was - in a physics book printed early in the 20th century. Since LOST has recently taken a turn deep into the world of physics and science fiction, might the writers have actually chosen the name from the physics professor: Henry Gordon Gale? Certainly, we've heard a few other names on the show from the world of physics - like Faraday & Casimir. Maybe Henry Gale is yet another. Then again, maybe he's just Dorothy's uncle on the Wizard of Oz.

The Others and the Mysterious Cable

  It's been less than a month since the LOST season 4 finale and I'm already starting to see things that remind me of LOST everywhere. While driving back to work, I noticed a large curving column of smoke coming from an area near my office. I knew immediately that the Others were coming! Fortunately for me, the office was not on fire. A mile away, a farmer was plowing furiously while his field was on fire. The Others had not come... yet!

  While watching Fool's Gold, I couldn't help but think about the island. A scene with a bunny rabbit reminded me of Sawyer's bunny # 8 and Dr. Edgar Halliwax's bunny # 15. When Tess was being lowered into the blowhole, I was reminded of the scene where Locke lowered Kate into the Hatch!

  Of course, this is the sort of thing that happens to plenty of LOST fans everyday. Then, while making a journey from my ofice to the another part of the building, I noticed something. It was a mysterious cable! I picked up the cable and followed it for what seemed like many miles (although it may have been 20 feet). That was when I discovered the terrible truth about my drinking water!

  The MiddleMan from LOST writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach begins tonight (6/16) at 8PM on ABC Family. Variety says that ABC Family targets females aged 12 to 34, but I laughed my head off watching the free iTunes download of the show.

  Someone just emailed me a link to this article. It sounds like this year's finale will be an even bigger game changer than the season 3 season closer. Michael Emerson always has interesting things to say and he even shares some insights into his character on the show. In fact, he doesn't believe that Ben actually killed Nadia to get Sayid on his side. He may have just figured out a way to use the situation to his advantage. When you watch the show this Thursday, remember that Ben ALWAYS has a plan!

   One more thing from Emerson regarding the finale: It's deep, dark and violent.

   and I was hoping there would be another joyride scene with Hurley's van. Maybe next year! :)

Burglars Hit LOST.COM HQ

��Last weekend at about 2AM on Sunday, burglars smashed through the rear door of LOST.COM headquarters located at Century Road and Hwy 19 in Leesburg, GA. LOST.COM, of course, is a fan site not affiliated with ABC/Touchstone or Bad Robot. Most people, in fact, believe it to be a computer repair shop. In any case, evil monsters burst through the door and smashed a cash register filled with souvenir coins, a bunch of old movie ticket stubs, and another coin worth a free sundae at the Dairy Queen. Incredibly - NOTHING was stolen!!

��No one seems to have ventured past the cash register and it's possible that something may have spooked them (see photo)!

��The door is reinforced now. I'm planning to add a park bench and a picnic table on the sidewalk. Tiki carvings are beginning to appear here. Pretty soon, we'll have some nice Tiki torches. I'm starting to think this might be a nice place for a LOST island party!! It's just too bad that we've already cleaned up all of the volcanic ash that the police used to gather fingerprints here.

  After decades of comic book abstinence, I've rediscovered comic books. While visiting my brother in Atlanta and celebrating his birthday, a mutual friend loaned a comic book called 'KillDozer' to my brother. So, while no one was watching, I read it quickly and was astonished to find a touching children's story of a possessed bulldozer that chases people and then KILLS THEM!!! I thought there was something fishy about the story, and then I remembered Tom (our mutual friend ) telling us that it was actually based on a short story by Theodore Sturgeon.

  Less than a week later, I'm watching the Cabin Fever episode of LOST and John Locke's reincarnation test includes a comic book called Mystery Tales and it's amazing! It has an eerie cartoon illustration of a frightened man on an airliner and the words WHAT WAS THE SECRET OF THE MYSTERIOUS "HIDDEN LAND!"

  I always loved that type of comic book. It brought back so many memories of riding in the trunk on long family vacations to Florida. I always read the comics slowly with a flashlight so they would last long enough for the trip.

  In case you're wondering - yes - this particular comic book is skyrocketing in price on eBay. At the moment of this writing, I'm still the high bidder, but there are days left before the end of the auction. It should be interesting to watch.

New Show By LOST Writer to Premiere June 16

LOST writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach has a new TV show called The Middleman set to premiere June 16 on ABC Family.

The Middleman and Wendy

Javi is a real favorite in the world of LOST fandom. He played DJ Dan during the LOST Experience alternate reality game, often talks to fans at Dragon*Con and has even been known to go bowling with the fans (getting us past the bouncer with his Jedi mind tricks).

Besides writing for LOST, Javi has also written for Charmed, The Pretender, Boomtown, Jake 2.0 and others. He currently works with Glen Gordon Caron (of Moonlighting fame) on the hit NBC TV show, Medium, as both a writer and a co-executive producer. The Middleman idea has been with Javi for many years and became a reality after writer Paul Dini (also of LOST)convinced him to pursue the comic book route where it was published by Viper Comics.

So you're probably wondering what The Middleman is all about. It looks cool and zany- but what could it really be about? If Spock were to mind-meld with Javier Grillo-Marxuach, what would he see? Here's my guess:

The following scene takes place after Javi visits Damon, Burky and J.J. on the set of the new Star Trek movie. Shortly after Damon shows him the new transporter room, Grillo-Marxuach calmly steps into the transporter bay and shouts "ENERGIZE!!" Incredibly, he fades from our universe and into a very strange universe where Star Trek is real and the actors are fake!

Dr. McCoy: Spock! Don't do it!!

Spock: I must know. I must know why he is here!

Spock raises one eyebrow.
Javi reaches forward, touches Spock's face and raises Spock's other eyebrow.
Javi now raises one eyebrow.

  Her movie role is very un-Claire like as she plays the part of a bipolar prostitute. Bipolar characters on LOST travel from the Arctic to the Antarctic by way of Tunisia.

   This is LOST, of course, and 14J is a clue, right?



  According to Wikipedia, 14J is a job classification in the Air Defense Artillery Branch of the US Army. The career associated with the 14J classification is called Air Defense Tactical Operations Center Operator/Maintainer also known as an Early Warning System Operator.

  Exactly! So - does this imply a military connection to the island, or is it just part of an elaborate plan by the writers to make us all stay up late looking up stuff like this! Hmmmm...

��The monster has been a mystery since LOST began. Recently, in an interview with Jorge Garcia on AOL Television, he mentions something about an upcoming episode involving the smoke monster: ... but something happens, that's coming up, that involves that thing, and it's just... it's pretty crazy.

��Could he have been talking about last night's episode (The Shape of Things to Come)?

��Episode 9 leaves us with many many things to think about and the nature of the monster is just one of them. Can we think of the Smoke Monster as a piece of a very complicated game? When Alex is captured, Ben plays a mind game with her captor. He refers to Alex as a pawn (bluffing - playing Poker now rather than Chess) The mind game fails and Ben appears to be in shock. He changed the rules? mutters Ben.

�� Rules? We saw what the Smoke Monster did to the crewman from the freighter. Was he a pawn? Is the Smoke Monster a rook? Controlling the center of the board is important in the game of Chess. When Ben confronts Widmore, we begin to understand that control of the island may be the object of the game in LOST. The internet ratings service known as Quantcast.com says that for every 79 males who visit LOST.COM, there are 119 female visitors. According to Quantcast: The site attracts a more youthful, more affluent, more female audience.

Holy Smokes! From what I had seen of LOST fandom, there were more females but this is the first time I've seen real statistical proof.

I was going write something about LOST, dynamite and how I love the smell of gunpowder and cordite in the morning, but I can't ignore these stats. We can still talk about gunpowder, exploding submarines and the proper handling of unstable dynamite, but we can't ignore Evangeline Lilly's clothing either. Right??

Rediscovering the Hanso Foundation

  I'm convinced that the LOST Experience alternate reality game that played out between Seasons 2 and 3 has some important clues for LOST fans. LOSTLOVER, who has a blog here at LOST.com, recently posted that she thinks Ben may be connected to the Hanso Foundation. Her evidence is found at the Hanso Foundation website (yes - you thought it was down with only the letter from Alvar Hanso!) under Executive Bios. Peter Thompson's bio says that he was miraculously cured of cancer at the Alvar Hanso Cancer Center in Geneva. Of course, we now know that Ben told Juliet that he arranged for her sister to be cured of cancer. Now, that's something to think about: a connection between Ben and the Hanso Foundation! LOST Mind Games

Recently, I received a book called LOST Mind Games courtesy of Anne Dawson Books. Appropriately, it arrived shortly after the airing of episode 7 (Ji Yeon) - a classic LOST mind game of a show.

You might think that it's a book about the way that writers Damon, Carlton and team like to mess with our minds - but no! It's a book of mind boggling puzzles related to LOST!

I've always enjoyed puzzles. One of my more interesting classes in college had a textbook filled with nothing but problems to be solved. Many LOST fans may have a tendency to be drawn to puzzles. There are a huge number of LOST related message boards with fans puzzling over every aspect of LOST.

The puzzles in LOST Mind Games really do require a knowledge of LOST. Many of the puzzles are labeled Average Fan, Expert Fan or Diehard Fan and require a knowledge of quotes (like funny things that Desmond said to Locke in the hatch) , episode titles and other odd LOST related facts. I was once at a party of real diehard LOST fans and when I stepped out of the elevator onto the mezzanine floor (where the party was located) I said to a fellow LOST fan: �I go up the elevator; I go down the elevator.� To the non-LOST fan, this means nothing; but to the diehard fan, it's pretty funny.

  I'm sure everyone has noticed the new 'enhanced' LOST episodes that have been airing before the new LOST episodes. They are the ones with the little pop-ups that explain things to the more casual LOST viewer. I even received an email from a serious LOST fan who said to me - What are you doing with these pop ups!! as if I were somehow responsible for the decision to provide hints during the 2nd airing of the show.

  Jimmy Kimmel, however, really enjoys his enhanced LOST episodes. Just take a look at this one! It's very funny and somehow I think Kimmel may have actually seen a different show

Why Jin is Alive

  The flashforward of Jin's tombstone leads us to believe that he will soon suffer an untimely demise. The date on the tombstone is the same as the crash date and this is consistent with the Oceanic 6 deception that only 8 people initially survived the crash. Now, we have to wonder if Jin actually died or was left behind on the island. What did Matthew Abaddon mean when he asked Hurley the question: Are they still alive?

  If only we could read the minds of the writers? We know so much of the story. How will the flashbacks, the present and the flashforwards all weave together? We know, of course, that they will leave the island. When an agonized Jack said to Kate: We have to go back, Kate!, we knew that they would someday go back. What will motivate the survivors to return?

   Sayid is working for Ben and Ben always said that leaving the island would be a mistake. Hurley is haunted by Charlie and Charlie tries to tell him that they need him. They need you! Charlie tells Hurley! Jack is obviously haunted in the Season 3 finale. What must Jack be thinking? By now (the S3 finale flashforward), he must know that Claire is his half-sister. Is she still alive on the island? Is Jack haunted by visions of his sister? Will Kate also be haunted by visions of Claire? Certainly, little Aaron will be a constant reminder. The Oceanic 6 will return to the island and each member will have a motivation to return. What will motivate Sun? Unless Jin is still alive on the island, she will have little motivation to return. Therefore, Jin is alive!

  Dominic Monaghan was on the Tonight Show this week where he talked about working with Hugh Jackman on the X-Men prequel, hunting giant spiders, his art exhibition in LA, picking up other people's accents as a kid, and growing up watching the Muppets, Sesame Street and the A-Team. The A-Team was a very important part of Dominic's life. Not only does Dominic love it when a plan comes together, but he has completely memorized the A-Team song that aired at the beginning of each episode! Be sure to watch the videos if only to catch the part where he recites the A-Team intro word for word.

  There's a good video interview with Yunjin Kim on USATODAY's latest CelebWatch. She talks a little bit about the upcoming episode 7 and tells us that we will meet the last of the Oceanic 6 in that episode. She also thinks that some of the survivors will stay on the island and this will be the reason for Jack's need to return to the island.

  Will Sun be one of the Oceanic 6? Remember what Jorge Garcia said about episode 7. It's going to be shocking!

  Geek Monthly has some interesting tidbits about Jorge Garcia. When he was in high school, he scored very high on the math portion of the SAT and was later named Triton of the Year. According to Wikipedia, the Triton of the Year is selected by the faculty and is the highest award given to a graduating senior.

  Garcia admits to enjoying puzzles involving math and logic, which is great considering that he stars in a TV show that is arguably the biggest puzzler in television history.

  Garcia also has a special affinity for the number 8, which makes me wonder if he had anything to do with Ben's rabbit having the number 8 painted on it.

LOST Fan Mark Kaye Interviews Michael Emerson

Mark Kaye is a LOST fan who is also the host of a radio show in Jacksonville, Florida. You might think that Tallahassee would be the really cool place for LOST fans until you find out that Michael Emerson actually lived and worked in Jacksonville! Mark had the good fortune to interview Michael Emerson on the air and even sent us a link to the YouTube video (see video on right). It's a very good interview as it is both revealing and funny.

Here's something else to think about. Kaye has a funny tag line in his email that says 'Ben Linus 2008.' Hmmm... but is it REALLY so funny?? Think about it.... Ben Linus as President. Here are a few points to consider for the campaign:

(1) From Season 3, Episode 20, we know not only that Ben Linus is a natural born US citizen but he was even born in the woods!! You can't get more natural than that!

(2) The War on Terror would end at some point during the Ben Linus Presidential Inauguration as terrorists would run for the hills and promptly blow themselves up.

(3) From the episode: Every Man for Himself, we know that he can beat up Sawyer. With Ben Linus as President, no one would mess with us!

(4) The Secret Service would protect him from the freighter boat people!

Matthew Fox: It's Not a Dinosaur!

Matthew Fox was on Regis and Kelly yesterday (2/19). He talked about his work in movies including Vantage Point and says that they plan on making 5 or 6 more LOST episodes this season in addition to the 8 produced before the writers' strike. He says that he enjoyed being with his kids during the strike. The Vantage Point promotion has been quite intense with Matthew Fox recently visiting 9 countries.

   Evangeline Lilly was on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on Valentines' Day. She was great and it was a funny show with Craig Ferguson continually asking her to marry him.

During a Thursday afternoon visit to CNBC's Fast Money, former Disney CEO Michael Eisner boldly declared the three-month-old WGA strike "over." Pressed to elaborate, he said, "They've made a deal, they shook hands on a deal [and it] is going on Saturday to the constituents [for a vote].

Ryan Ozawa recently said:

Even with a signed deal, it�s been said, it could take some time to get production back up to full speed. It would depend on the availability of the cast and crew, as well as adjustments that may have to be made to the storyline.

  I just received an email from film producer and LOST fan, Stacy Schoolfield. She produced a film called jumping off bridges and Michael Emerson is featured in the movie! The movie is now available on DVD.

  This is actually the first time that I have been aware of the movie. Watching the trailer is moving. It appears to be a story of friendship and loss and according to FilmMaker Magazine, the film has been embraced by people who have suffered loss, counselors, therapists, people who work in the fields of suicide prevention, mental health and awareness, professors of psychology and social workers.

  Last night at my office I wanted to show someone a scene from LOST via the ABC web site and I was shocked to discover that all 3 seasons of LOST were available in streaming HD. I clicked Exodus Part 2 and saw the scene where Locke was being dragged into a hole by the smokemonster and Jack was telling Kate to get the dynamite!

  Incredible! For someone who hasn't seen LOST, this is a great opportunity. You have until January 31 at 9PM to watch everything! Then again, you can always watch the 8 minute 15 second synopsis.

  There is also a very good LOSTCasts podcast out this week. They talk about the season finale and there is also some new information from some of the actors regarding the nature of Season 4.

  Yesterday, I was watching 'The Onion News Network' on TiVo and noticed that Evangeline Lilly was the headline feature! What a great Onion broadcast! They even pronounced her name correctly!

  The award for 'Best Fight Scene in a Wet T-Shirt or Short-Shorts' at the 5th Annual Strong Women in Television Awards Ceremony is certainly nothing to sneeze at. Here's some of the dialogue:

Will the Strike End Before Christmas?

According to Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood Daily Blog, the writers' strike may be over sooner than many expected. Even though talks only resumed on Monday (Nov 26), the word is that Hollywood agents have already done a great deal of work getting a deal ready and the strike could be settled before Christmas.

Hopefully the agreement will work well for both the writers and the studio moguls. The math is interesting.Pattern bargaining means that other unions will get similar deals. The extra cost for DVDs is significant, so a reasonable balance must be obtained in the deal.

Not much has been said about the cost of video streaming and this is a part of what everyone refers to as 'new media.' It is a major issue in the strike negotiations. The WGA says that the studios are making tons of money from streaming video and the studios say that the videos are promotional. However, the bandwidth costs for high resolution video must be tremendous. In a recent article in MacNN, BitTorrent president Ashwin Navin says that the cost of streaming video over the net is more than 20 cents per hour per viewer and the advertising revenue per viewer may be less than the cost of streaming. There is hope for the situation, however. His new product, Bittorrent DNA, promises to reduce the cost of streaming by transferring some of the burden to the viewers' computers. Using Bittorrent DNA, people will watch a show on the net and actually rebroadcast parts of the stream to other viewers. In the future, the cost of streaming video may decrease further if the upload speeds of the typical viewer increase. Unfortunately, upload speeds are currently too slow for high quality video. For example, I can watch an enjoyable, but fuzzy TV program when it is rebroadcast from home to my office via a slingbox. If my home DSL connection allowed upload speeds of 900 bps or greater, I could probably watch a very clear video on my office computer. Bittorrent DNA or something similar may actually be the answer to the high cost of video streaming. If the day comes when streaming costs are negligible, there will be an explosion on online content. Michael Eisner recently commented on the current status of the 'new media' when he stated that a series he made for the net (Prom Queen) only made $2000.00.

Of course, the most important question is: How many episodes of LOST will we see next year? Not everyone believes that the strike will end soon. Be sure to take a look at some of the references below for more information. Let's hope the strike ends soon enough for all 16 episodes of LOST Season 4 to be produced.

My brother recently gave me something called a Nabaztag (Armenian for bunny rabbit) for my birthday. It's a wi-fi connected bunny rabbit that reads news headlines, gives me the current time and even reads aloud the subject lines of my GMail messages. Since I have subscribed to Google Alerts related to everything LOST, the bunny is very very busy and most of the time it just says GOOGLE ALERT! Evangeline Lilly! Apparently, she is the most talked about LOST celebrity on the net, so we might as well talk about her here too.

Naturally, there are tons of pictures of Evangeline Lilly on the net as well as frequent Evangeline Lilly sightings, and there was even a reference to a website that allows people to morph two faces into one. I received an alert when someone morphed photos of Evangeline Lilly and Jared Leto, so I tried morphing a photo of Evangeline with writer Damon Lindelof. Incredibly, it still looks exactly like Lindelof.

There are some excellent Evangeline Lilly audio clips out there, so be sure to check them out. She's very revealing about herself, but remains careful not to reveal any real LOST secrets. I didn't even know she spoke French!

Season 4, Episode 9 to be Written by Robots

In a stunning development, anonymous sources at Bad Robot Productions have revealed that LOST episodes will be written entirely by robots starting with episode 9 of the upcoming season.

Apparently, the plan has been in the works for quite some time since it was previously thought completely impossible that simple robots could carry on the complex business of writing, breaking down scenes in the editing room and even working with producers. Computers have long been able to play Grandmaster level chess so it is only natural that they would soon be writing screenplays for enormously popular television shows. Could this be the real reason for the name Bad Robot? Have they been planning for a writers' strike since the beginning?

LOST Webisodes Start on Monday!

  Here's some good news! EW.com has reported that new LOST material will be released on ABC's web site this Monday (11/12/2007).These are little micro-stories that fit into the larger LOST story. The writer's strike may push the season premiere back a bit (or even a lot), but at least we'll have a glimpse this Monday!

   According to Jorge's blog; Jorge, Naveen, and Elizabeth were recently at a LOST panel in LA. There was also a roundtable interview that included Harold Perrineau. Of course, news about the new season is always limited, but apparently they were allowed to reveal a few things of interest. Here they are, in order:

  (1) The actors have been shocked by the scripts they have seen.

  (2) Nothing is more shocking than the end of episode 7!

  Of course, we have no idea of the nature of the shocking events to come in LOST. Will it be some kind of weird mind bender regarding the true nature of the flashbacks and flash-forwards? Will it have something to do with the mysterious Jacob? Juliet was only joking about the alien runway... right?

A First Look at Season 4

  Season 4 is coming in February and everyone is wearing the same clothes. I'm guessing that Ben Linus was right. Minkowski and friends on the freighter are going to be very bad news and they probably aren't bringing new clothes for everyone. Still, from the finale, we do know that Kate and Jack will make it off the island and from Jorge Garcia's blog, we know that the script for the season opener is awesome! Otherwise, we really know very little about the fourth season and Jorge is forbidden from telling us anything else about upcoming episodes.

New S4 Photo and LOST on SciFi!

   Here's something we haven't seen on LOST in a while: the famous Oceanic 815 wreckage! This appears to be the cockpit. We saw the fuselage burned in the 1st season while the 2nd season revealed that the tail section sank into the ocean just offshore. Notice the rifle that Desmond is carrying. Juliet is also seen standing closer to the plane.

  Notice that the real news in the TV Guide article may be that the SciFi channel will be airing LOST repeats! So now, for all of us who have friends who haven't seen LOST or feel like they are too far behind to get started, we can get them started during one of the LOST marathons that are bound to appear on SciFi. Click here for more news about LOST on SciFi. It appears that the LOST mini-marathons will begin in 2008. I suspect that 2008 may be the year that LOST really explodes in popularity. Years ago, I was part of a huge StarGate crowd at Dragon*Con in Atlanta. StarGate had recently begun airing on SciFi. There was also a huge influx of LOST.com visitors from Russia when LOST began airing there almost daily. LOST fan Vlad from Russia notified me that the 1st season began in Russia on September 4th 2006 and continued with one episode every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with double-features on some occasions.

What would you do if you were far from home with a group of people you didn't know? How would you react if you suddenly regained your ability to walk? What would you do if your son was abducted? Will you be the person you believe yourself to be?

LOST is certainly a thought provoking television show and now it seems to have inspired a soon to be published book on philosophy called LOST and Philosophy. Apparently, this is a scholarly text as it is set to be published by Wiley-Blackwell. Fortunately for LOST fans, they have sent us several chapters free of charge! Are the people you encounter really who they claim to be? Will you be the person you claim to be in that altered state? Firefly: Something a LOST Fan Might Appreciate

A pretty girl on a planet called Persephone spins her parasol and calls out to you. "You're gonna come with us." she says.
What do you do? If you're a fan of really great television, I suggest you take the trip. The show is called Firefly and the trip will take you into a very interesting part of something called the Joss Whedon-verse.

There are some similarities between LOST and Firefly: an excellent ensemble cast, a good story, outstanding cinematography, and a journey that just seems worth taking. The mystery is there. LOST has a mysterious island, while Firefly has a mysterious River. I think the show resonates with LOST fans. A LOST fan talked me into buying the DVDs and when I went to Dragon*Con last week, I was very pleased to see that OldManFan (of LOST fandom's thefuselage fame) was wearing a Serenity T-Shirt.

There is also a positive theme that runs throughout Firefly and Serenity (the movie). If the theme in LOST is one of redemption, then there is a similar theme in Firefly. We see it in the beginning of the movie and it hits us again at the end of the movie. It's just one word, but I would never want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen the movie. The movie ending is one of the best that I've ever seen and I keep seeing it, partly because it's the sort of thing that one remembers and thinks about the next day and partly because I keep pressing rewind and watching it again.

We all suspected that LOST was about more than just getting home.

Evangeline's Video Interview in Sydney

Richard Clune of the Sunday Telegraph recently spoke to Evangeline Lilly in a special video interview. The interview took place in Sydney prior to her trip to New Zealand. It's a very good interview. Evangeline is relaxed. She talks about her habit of adopting new personae when she moved from town to town (a natural talent that made her the perfect person to play the role of Kate). She's keeping her fingers crossed that Kate will be there until the end and also hopes that Sawyer and Sun survive until the end of the series.

Did Walt Deliver a Message from the Future?

  After season 2, Carlton Cuse told us that Walt's sudden growth would be explained in Season 3. So now that season 3 is over, we must know... right?

  Consider the following!

  We saw Jack and Kate post rescue in LA and things are very bad for Jack.

  In season 1, Walt told Locke not to open the hatch. Now, of course, we know that opening the hatch led ultimately to John Locke destroying the computer which forced Desmond to turn the failsafe key. Using the failsafe may have interfered with the ability to return to the island (according to Ben). Now, after the season 3 finale, we know that the Looking Glass station prevented transmissions from leaving the island. The radio tower also interfered with Naomi's satellite phone. Now, the island is vulnerable and if Ben is correct, very bad things will happen. Considering Jack's condition in the future, we can assume that it will be very very bad. So Walt's early advice was good after all.

  After Walt's kidnapping, he is seen twice as an apparition. In both cases, he speaks warnings in reverse - Press the button! Don't press the button - bad! and They're coming and they're close! Could the reverse speech be due to a problem sending information to the past?

  Finally, when Walt appears to Locke in season 3, he warns him not to shoot himself. Then he tells him that he has work to do. Locke responds by killing Naomi before she can send a message to her people. He later attempts to prevent Jack from communicating with Naomi's people. Since Walt appears much older and the writers promised an explanation, we can assume that he is speaking from the future where he is older - possibly the future (or alternate future) seen during the last few minutes of the season 3 finale.

  Apparently, the story of LOST has been quite a long time in the making, since Honorius of Autun was a 12th century Catholic priest. I stumbled on the quote while relaxing on the patio reading a book called Underworld: The Mysterious Origins of Civilization by Graham Hancock. When I couldn't find the quote indexed on Google, I quickly posted it as a footer quote on LOST.com. It has been there since June of 2005.

  The scene of Jack at home with the maps and Oceanic tickets strewn across the room was very emotional and communicated all too well the sting of loss. Here he is, after being fortunate enough to have actually stumbled on the island (The Lost) by chance, discovering that he cannot return.

LOST Stars on the Big Screen

I knew that Maggie Grace was going to be in a movie called 'Taken' with Liam Neeson, but when I saw her at the LOST Weekend Fan Party, all I could think to say was 'I liked the funny Nobody's Watching LOST YouTube video that you did.' She nearly fell over backwards! Anyway, she is one of many LOST stars to be appearing on the big screen in the near future. Here is a partial list - please send an email if you know of any other upcoming movies with LOST actors!

In the movie Taken, Maggie Grace plays the daughter of an ex-spy played by Liam Neeson. When she is kidnapped and sold as a slave, big trouble ensues.

Nestor Carbonell, who plays the mysterious Richard Alpert, will appear in the new Batman movie: The Dark Knight. Carbonell will play the part of the mayor of Gotham City.

Evangeline Lilly will appear in the supernatural thriller Afterwards, which is now in production. Non-LOST actor John Malkovich will also appear in the movie.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje will be the voice of the town crier in the animated feature Horton Hears a Who (now filming). He is also in talks to be heard (and seen) in the upcoming 2008 horror movie Survive.

Naveen Andrews will be in the 2007 movie The Brave One with Jodie Foster.

This next one sounds very promising! Matthew Fox will play 'Racer x' in the new 2008 Wachowski Brothers feature film Speed Racer. Of course, I'll be watching since Speed Racer's car bears an uncanny resemblance to my very own Mitsubishi LOSTmobile.

Michelle Rodriguez will appear in the 2007 movie Battle in Seattle which is based on the true story of the deranged anarchists protesting the WTO meetings in Seattle.

The movie Whisper starring Josh Holloway has already been completed and should be on the big screen sometime this year. Whisper is yet another supernatural thriller. Holloway is also in talks to play the part of Gambit in an upcoming X-Men 4 movie.

Dominic Monaghan plays the part of an 18th century gravedigger by the name of Arthur Blake in a movie called I Sell The Dead.

Yunjin Kim will appear in a movie called Two Sisters that is not a supernatural thriller! The belly dancing comedy film should reach theaters by 2008. Yunjin Kim - belly dancing!

Look for Cynthia Watros in a family film called Frank.

Who are Bambi and Thumper?

When Charlie emerged from the moon pool at the Looking Glass station only to be confronted by a couple of agitated (but attractive) women with guns, I couldn't help but think of a scene in a Bond movie with a swimming pool and two female gymnasts who confronted James Bond. The two gymnasts were known as 'Bambi' and 'Thumper' and, incredibly, they were there to protect Jimmy Dean!

Are Charlie's Bambi and Thumper part of the Others? They seemed very surprised and didn't appear to recognize Charlie. Wouldn't all of the Others be familiar with everyone from 815? They even have files on them. They actually seemed a bit fearful as if they had no idea what to expect. Could they just be isolated from things going on on the island or might they actually be newcomers who had recently discovered the underwater facility?

There is a clue in the scene where Naomi is injured and speaks in Portuguese while Mikhail and Desmond are tending to her. The translation is "I'm not alone." Mikhail then tried to cover this up by telling Desmond that she said "Thank you." Perhaps, the crew at the Looking Glass are actually part of Penny Widmore's expedition to find Desmond!

Another question now comes to mind. What is Naomi hiding? When she was so chatty with Charlie at the beginning of the story, why did she not mention that she was not alone? Will this be revealed on May 23?

I feel like we're playing a chess game, and in the first six moves, we've lost our queen and two bishops, and the audience is saying 'They are the worst chess players in the world!' What they don't realize is that we're nine moves away from check-mating you.

  Years ago, Matthew Fox was an economics major at Columbia University with plans to work on Wall Street. Fortunately, for LOST fans, he took a completely different path after college and yesterday, as Columbia's Class Day speaker, he won over his critics who wanted a Pulitzer Prize winner or a presidential candidate.

Why Locke Will Live

  Something horrible happened on the show tonight... It appears that Locke is dead. Is he dead? - Jimmy Kimmel

  Is he? I doubt it. In a recent article we learned that John Locke is really the heart of the show. He was the cripple who could walk. He looked into the eye of the island and in a quote from the LA Times article, Carlton Cuse made the point with all the finality he could muster: "The character of John Locke is just the very heart of the show."



Certainly, coming back from the brink of death while lying in a pile of corpses would parallel the scene on the beach when he discovered that he could move his legs.

  Remember why Ben shot John Locke - Locke could hear Jacob and Ben had to question Locke to discover what Jacob had said. Eerily, Jacob asked Locke to help him and it is unlikely that Locke would be able to do anything for Jacob if he was indeed dead. Jacob's communication with Locke means that Locke is a threat to Ben and without the threat to Ben, the show would be less interesting.

  Evangeline Lilly answered Kimmel saying that she loves working with Terry O'Quinn (present tense).

Lachonis: We know that Marvin Candle is going to be seen on the island in Episode 20. Was it cool to finally be involved in working with some of the other characters?

Chou: Yes, Marvin Candle is on the island. Without giving too much away, I can only say that I have yet to have the chance to work with some of the other characters.

We also learn that he likes Yunjin Kim, enjoys working in Hawaii and people come up to him and say Oh my God!, you're the Dharma Initiative guy!

What Will She Tell Us of the Outside World?

   Presumably, until now, no one has visited the island post crash from the outside world. The occasion of Naomi's arrival on the island is momentous. What will she tell us? She recognized Desmond and was almost certainly sent by Penny to find Desmond so we are left to wonder - will she expect to see anyone other than Desmond? Will the island be as new to her as it was to the survivors when they arrived? Her book is in Portuguese? Is she from Brazil? Flight 815 must have been a very big news story several months ago. What will she think when she learns that she is now among the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815?

  So many questions - and according to the synopsis of episode 19, we may have to wait until May 2, when The Brig airs. The Brig is written by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse.



A LOST - 24 Connection

  A lot of us have already seen LOST actor Henry Ian Cusick on 24 playing the part of German agent Theo Stoller. Here is an interesting parallel between the shows. In the LOST episode, Flashes Before Your Eyes, Desmond pays a visit to Mr. Widmore to ask for his daughter's hand in marriage. Shortly after Mr. Widmore asks Desmond if he knows much about whiskey, he picks up 2 glasses, but pours only one. Then, he cruelly tells Desmond that he is not worthy and drinks the rare whiskey himself.


   On 24, Henry Ian Cusick plays German agent, Theo Stoller. On Day 5 at 08:30, Jack Bauer pours Theo Stoller a glass of whiskey. Jack does not drink any whiskey and offers it only to Stoller.

  You're Really Going to Like the LOST Season Finale!

  That's what LOST producer Bryan Burk told me at the recent LOST Weekend Fan Party. He had been busy with work on Star Trek (Lindelof is also working on the new Star Trek) and LOST and he seemed very confident and pleased with the way that the LOST season finale was going. He mentioned that Lindelof and Cuse were still very busy writing (or they would have been at the party too). However, the thing that impressed me the most was the way that he said it was going to be the best LOST season finale to date - Wow!! I didn't ask for any clues or hints. That was all I needed to know!

More Evidence of a mind bending finale - the podcasts!

  From earlier ABC Podcasts, we know that the code name for the finale is the snake in the mailbox - meaning that it will be just as shocking as if you went to your mailbox, pulled the handle and were struck in the head from behind by a giant spider monkey wearing a top hat!

  More importantly, from the recent April 16 Official ABC LOST Podcast, we discover that Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are both feeling relieved to have nearly completed the writing of the season finale. Carlton even admits to working long hours with little sleep in between. Be sure to listen beyond the middle of the podcast when Carlton reads a very important question from 'Little Amiga' on the ABC boards.

Carlton (reading): Questions: Is Locke's Brother alive???
Damon (puzzled): Locke's brother?
Carlton (laughing): I'm just asking the question.
Damon: Locke's brother! I did.. I'll be honest with you, Carlton - I did not know that Locke had a brother. I know he had a foster brother that he's referred to... and my guess is: yes - he's probably still alive and well.
Carlton (laughing more): ... my next question...
Damon: yeah
Carlton: (laughing)
Damon: Let's have it
Carlton (much laughing): is he someone we already know, LIKE BEN!???

  Now, I have a favorite podcast episode! Ha Ha! Obviously, the LOST writers and producers have been working hard. I suspect the result will be a great show!

The LOST Weekend Fan Party - Early Report

This year's LOST Weekend Fan Party is the 3rd event of its nature to take place in LA. It is a gathering of LOST fans consisting mostly of users of the J.J. Abrams sponsored web site: The Fuselage. I'd like to thank Fuselage poster 'hijinx' for letting me know about this year's event.

Arrival in LA

I arrived in LA on ~~Aeroflot~~ Airtran flight 41 at approximately midnight March 29. For a LOST fan with an active imagination, it was an exciting flight. At one point, there was the familiar calming 'bong' sound followed by the sort of turbulence that prompted Jack to say to Rose: "It's normal." Then, it soon became the sort of violent shaking experienced by Ben Linus's bunny rabbit ( though I may have imagined this).

The Fire

Shortly after meeting some of the LOST fans in the hospitality suite, someone mentioned a large fire in the Hollywood hills (it was visible from the window). It was much like the fire that Charlie set in the 'Fire + Water' episode, only it wasn't set by Charlie and it was about 2000 times bigger!

The Pre-Party

I don't know what to say. The LOST fans here are truly very nice people. Some are quite talented in that they are able to spoof rap music in a way that makes it more enjoyable (and much funnier!) than the original. Later, LOST writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach (I can spell his name!) arrived and it is obvious why he is a fan favorite. He is very friendly and gracious. Everyone likes Javi!

The Bowling

Lucky Strike Lanes is a classic Hollywood establishment: exotic, loud, and colorful with bizarre images including what can only be called an evil snarling Mickey Mouse. It is also the site of classic battles between the Burky Babes (Bryan Burk fan club) and the Javi Minions (Javi fan club). It's not that the Minions are bad, but we were not off to a good start.

Most LOST fans are unaffected by the noise, but it was beginning to affect me in the same way that the sonic fence affected Patchy. Day 2 would begin soon.

John Locke is the Heart of LOST!

Do We Already Know What Happened to Locke?

  In LOST, major revelations are usually preceded by hints, so certainly there must be some good clues concerning Locke's secret (the event that caused his paralysis). We know from the 1st Season that John Locke worked for a box company and that Hurley actually owned a box company after he won the lottery. In this weeks episode, Par Avion, Patchy almost said something about Locke's previous paralysis, but he was interrupted by the French Lady. (How do the Others know so much about the survivors? That is another mystery!) In another recent episode, Tricia Tanaka is Dead we hear the following conversation between Tricia Tanaka and Hurley:

TRICIA: It's everyone's fantasy -- winning the lottery -- untold millions falling into your lap overnight. What would you do with all that money? Well, one such lucky winner recently bought a chicken shack. I'm Tricia Tanaka with Hugo Reyes, winner of a record 114 million dollars, outside Mr. Clucks Chicken in Diamond Bar which will be having its grand re-opening tomorrow. So, Hugo, I think the question on everyone's mind is: why did you buy Mr. Clucks?

HURLEY [nervous]: Uh, I like chicken.

TRICIA: Um, also with us is Hugo's former boss, and now employee, Randy Nation. That's probably every working stiff's fantasy, isn't it, Mr. Reyes? [Hurley just shrugs] Um, okay, so, Hugo, tell us what else you've done since you got on your lucky streak?

HURLEY: Actually, I've kind of had some bad luck, too. My grandpa Tito died of a heart attack and the first house I bought my mom burnt down. My friend Johnny ran off with my girlfriend, Starla. Oh, and this guy jumped off my accountant's roof.

   A guy jumped off a roof? Locke paralyzed? Box company connection? Coincidence? Nooo! Not on LOST! Of course, back in Season One, we remember the actual Hurley/ Accountant scene and we saw the guy fly by the window.

From Numbers:

KEN: Hugo, you are not the first lottery winner to believe the money's brought them nothing but trouble. It's all in your head.

HURLEY: What, you don't believe in jinxes? You know, curses?

KEN: I'm an accountant, I believe in numbers. Hey, where'd you get them, anyway?

HURLEY: What?

KEN: The winning numbers. What'd you use somebody's birthday, phone number?

HURLEY: No, it's nothing, it's something that I...

KEN: What?

HURLEY: That's it. It's not the money, it's the numbers. The numbers are cursed. Dude, don't look at me like that, I'm not crazy. This is real.

KEN: Hugo, the numbers aren't cursed. You know there is no such thing as a...

[A man is seen falling in the window behind the accountant.]

  Could the falling man be Locke? It certainly didn't occur to me when I saw the scene in Numbers. However, when Hurley mentioned it again so recently in the Tricia Tanaka is Dead episode, I had to think that maybe the writers were giving us a clue. Of course, we don't know the circumstances. Did Locke jump? Was he pushed? We may find out very soon. Next week's episode is Locke-centric.

(1) Some people believe that that the true nature of LOST is discovered when it is seen as an adventure game. Allgames at www.lostisagame.com believes that LOST IS a game! Is she right? This episode featured a ping pong game and a chess game that gets very interesting if you win. Could they be hints? How do you win the game? In a recent interview, Damon Lindelof referred to the Flashes Before Your Eyes episode and suggested that a LOST flashback may not be as simple as we had been led to believe: that the flashback devices might not just be the sort of simple thing that we've been presenting you before - that some of these bad decisions that people have made in their lives are potentially reversible in some way, shape or form... So, if LOST really is a game, can someone replay a move?

Jack is the Wild Card

  Tonight's episode (Stranger in a Strange Land) was one of my all time favorite LOST episodes. A theme is emerging with another psychic in a flashback and of course the title Stranger in a Strange Land means something in both the flashback and in the main story. Of course, Jack was a stranger when he was staying in Phuket, and of course he is a stranger among The Others but he is an unexpected stranger in the bigger story. Remember when Pickett said that Shephard (Jack) wasn't even on Jacob's list? I think this story is telling us that Jack is very unique. He is a wild card thrown into the whole big equation and this makes him very important. Jack is unpredictable. He refuses to be manipulated. He is the unknown factor.

   I think you've got one guy up there with a gun. I think there's more of us than there are of you. I think if you had any real strength, you wouldn't have had to send a spy -- Ethan.

  There is also something very intensely emotional about this story. Kate wants to rescue Jack and Karl will risk everything to see Alex again. Sawyer also, obviously, has strong feelings for Kate. The ending sequence with the backyard scene and the boat ride was also very intense on an emotional level.

  More things to think about: Juliet is also marked.

   Karl has never heard of the Brady Bunch.

  The Others have an eye for an eye philosophy.

The Flashbacks Are Not What They Seem!

  In a recent interview with Kristin Veitch, Damon Lindelof said something truly incredible when he and Carlton were asked about the Flashes Before Your Eyes episode: an episode that Kristin described as insanely good.

Lindelof: Hopefully, it opened up the show in a way that you understand that the flashback devices might not just be the sort of simple thing that we've been presenting you before - that some of these bad decisions that people have made in their lives are potentially reversible in some way, shape or form and this is sort of us dabbling in that world.

   Wow! Could this be one of the bombs that Lindelof mentioned three months earlier!

   According to series cocreator Damon Lindelof, "two bombs" will be dropped shortly after the island thriller resurfaces on February 7. "One is a character bomb, and that will happen within the first three episodes after the break," Lindelof reveals. "And the other is a more significant story bomb-- a game-changer that will happen shortly after."

Desmond in Wonderland

   Great works of literature inspire something in us. It's a wonderful feeling. It's a sense of wonder, mystery and adventure. That sense or feeling is quite a powerful emotion. It's certainly uncommon almost by definition. Fortunately, for LOST fans we get to experience it a little bit more than the general population.

   Flashes Before Your Eyes has us thinking about so many things: time travel, deja vu, destiny, clairvoyance, a girl name Claire and even a course correcting universe. In a sense, this episode isn't really a flashback. Desmond is off the island, in the past, and the flashes that he sees are from his future on the island! The question of what happened to Desmond after turning the key in the hatch is finally answered. He turns the key while thinking of Penny and immediately finds himself on the floor of his old flat after falling from a ladder. Penny is there and he is back. Incredibly, he knows about the island, the hatch, the race around the world and even Charlie, yet he seems to be re-living his past. At one point, he is racing to speak to a physicist about the possibility of time travel.

  This is a great episode. This is what LOST is all about: mystery, adventure, romance, wonder and discovery.

Day Break Marathon

ABC's streaming video website now has 4 new episodes of Day Break. The video quality is very good and compares to watching an actual TV broadcast. Four episodes!

My latest project coincides with the release of Day Break to the web: A Home Theater computer. It uses a new case by a company called Kingwin and the resulting computer takes the place of a DVD player in the home entertainment center. When connected to an amplifier and a big screen LCD TV (not pictured) with a VGA input, the result is far superior to watching the same TV show on a computer.

   Kimberly Estrada will appear as 'Sherry' in the upcoming February 7 episode of LOST. Some may recognize her as model # 16 on NBC's Deal or No Deal.

  We might assume that she is in a flashback scene since her official website only mentions that she will be in episode 7.

   Spoilerfix.com tells us that episode 7 also features a character by the name of 'Edmund Burke' who has a laboratory and enjoys dating women half his age. Could Sherry be part of this flashback?

  According to Kimberly's resume, she has experience in Collegiate Soccer, Stunts, Weaponry, Jeet Kun Do Kung Fu, Jiu-jitsu, Tae Kwon Do, Kick Boxing, Western Boxing, Fencing, Rock Climbing, Racquet Sports, Volleyball, Golf, Yoga, Pool Shark, Dodgeball, Teleprompter, and Gardening.

LOST Goes Back to the Beach

  According to an article on ToledoBlade.com, the next episode (S3, Ep7) will explore Juliet's past while Kate and Sawyer attempt to escape from the island of the Others. I had assumed that there was a ferryboat on the island after seeing the dock, but we now know that the others have a submarine as well as Desmond's now repaired boat. It seems feasible that Kate and Sawyer might leave in the boat. The more exciting possibility would involve the use of the submarine. Since, it's doubtful that either Kate or Sawyer might be able to pilot a submarine, they might need to obtain the help of one of the others.

  After episode 7, the story will return to the survivors back on the beach.

Variety Predicts 7+ Seasons For LOST

There are some interesting articles regarding the planning of the big LOST wrap-up. Variety Magazine quotes ABC President Steve McPherson as saying that discussions about the endgame for "Lost" are ongoing, but no plan has been identified as yet. TV Guide's Ausiello quotes Damon Lindelof as saying that ideally, the end of Season 4 should be close to the wrap up of the show. TV Squad's Joel Keller talks about his accidental lunch with Steve McPherson. Keller reports that McPherson speculated that it might be after a seventh season. The Variety article also points to a 7+ season scenario since the actors have contracts for that many years.

Since I'm not one of those fans complaining about a lack of answers, I want to see LOST continue for a very long time. Wasn't there a Muppets song that said that half the fun was getting there? What if the survivors finally make it off the island and then... something really amazing happens??

A Glimpse at a Long Awaited Episode

  It's been a long wait for the next episode of LOST. According to Rob McKenzie, it's not only worth the wait, but it's worth continuing to watch. This episode actually takes us off the island and it is not only action packed, but there is also a long awaited moment for the Jaters. Here's an excerpt from Inside the Box: Next on LOST

   On Wednesday night, ABC delivered screeners of the return episode of Lost, which is to air on Feb. 7, to TV critics here in Pasadena. The disc came in an unmarked brown envelope ...

   In an attached cover letter, the network says: �We kindly ask that you use your discretion in reviewing this show by not revealing any plot details that contain spoilers,� and of course I�ll respect that.

   Within those confines, here�s a glimpse at the next Lost hour: The episode begins off the island.

   The line between Others and Losties is becoming increasingly blurred, rather like the racial divide that quickly crumbled in this season�s Survivor.

   Episode title: �Not in Portland,� and I�m pretty sure they mean the one in Oregon.

   Actor Matthew Fox desperately wants to give up his nicotine addiction this year, as he's tired of hiding his bad habit from his kids.

   The Lost star admits he has been struggling to quit smoking for years but stress always drives him back to take one last puff. But now, as his kids grow older and wiser, it's beginning to get difficult to hide the fact their father is a smoker.

  There is a discussion on the Bravo Forums about Day Break being scheduled for sometime in 2007. Hopefully, someone will find out when it will premiere over there. Bravo is a UK network specializing in TV for men. As it says on their webpage: Bravo:a televisual broadcaster for the modern gentleman.

  This will really be interesting. If things go as planned, British viewers will be watching LOST on Sky about a week after it airs here in the US. Previously, many LOST fans in the UK had been downloading the shows shortly after they aired on ABC. If ABC fails to add Day Break to their online shows on ABC.com, many in the US will be watching Day Break by downloading it from viewers in the UK via BitTorrent or alt.binaries.multimedia on USENET.

Day Break Canceled Only On TV

   According to the Sci-Fi Channel, Day Break on ABC has been canceled and the December 20 episiode will not air on TV as previously scheduled. If that isn't already bad enough, ABC will air holiday themed repeats of George Lopez and According to Jim in its place. Yikes!

  All is not lost, however. Day Break will continue on ABC.com via streaming video. For those with a computer and a high speed internet connection in the US, the show will continue.

  The online video is viewable even on my sub-standard DSL connection (see below).



  Those with faster connections will be able to watch the show at a larger screen size. Ideally, a notebook computer could be plugged into a monitor style big screen TV and the experience would be much the same as watching standard television.

A LOST Podcaster Talks Day Break

   LOST has inspired several zillion podcasts and now some of the LOST fans are talking about Day Break in the message boards and at least one LOST podcaster is talking about Day Break. LOST Writer JGM Writes Battlestar Mini-Series

�� My favorite LOST writer, Javier Grillo-Marxuach, has now written a comic book miniseries called Battlestar Galactica - Cylon Apocalypse . Dynamite Entertainment is releasing the first of the four part comic book miniseries in February of 2007. The series is based on the original Battlestar Galactica TV series and begins with the bizzare scene of Cylon Raiders attacking one of their own Basestars. Something even stranger happens next and the Cylon Apocalypse begins!

If you've seen the DVD extras or TV interviews with many of the LOST actors, you've probably realized that they really do get along well and enjoy each other's company. You're Henry Gale! You Just Walk Around... With People?

  Tony Tellado of Sci-Fi Talk recently interviewed Michael Emerson(Henry Gale/Ben Linus) of LOST. There are some real insights into the production of LOST in this interview. If you think they're taking a break during the hiatus, you're wrong! Everything seems to happen very quickly. The time period between Emerson's accepting the offer and being strung up a tree in a net in Hawaii was apparently very short! Not informed of whether or not his character was lying, he played everything as if he was telling the truth. Since the character is a very good liar, this works very well. The actors only have about 10 days vacation during the holidays and otherwise work full time between now and May! [Editor's note: no more complaining about the long break! :) ]

  I've already listened to the interview twice while driving around in my Mitsubishi LOSTmobile :) - It's a very enjoyable interview. There is some funny stuff about people reacting to him when they seen him in public. Someone spotted him in Hawaii after the earthquake: Hey, wait a minute - you're on LOST! You're Henry Gale! You just walk around... with people!??

  Be sure to listen for Michael Emerson's idea on what may be driving the others.

Is Desmond A Time Traveler?

  When I was a physics student, I remember one of my instructors saying that he believed that faster than light travel would be achieved by science. I remember thinking that this was an odd statement because we had been taught for years that faster than light travel was impossible because it led to paradoxes: time travel, of course, being one of them. Maybe he knew something or maybe he saw that I was losing consciousness and he just wanted to say something to keep my head from hitting the desk.

  In recent years, several articles have appeared concerning the work of a theoretical physicist by the name of Burkhard Heim. Extending his theory leads to the possibility of sending a spacecraft into a multidimensional hyperspace (yes- I don't know what that means either) with the use of powerful magnetic fields. I don't know if any of this could lead to time travel, but the powerful magnetic field is certainly present in the fictional world of LOST.

  Of course, science fiction in LOST doesn't need to rely only on science in the real world. Science fiction is built mostly on previous science fiction. The first reference to previous science fiction that I noticed was the appearance of Desmond running naked through the jungle just moments before Eko's stick nearly struck Locke on the head. Desmond's mysterious appearance outside of the hatch without clothes is similar to the famous scene in The Terminator where time travelers materialize naked because clothes don't travel through time in the fictional world of The Terminator.

  Eko's twirling stick reminds us of the famous Dawn of Man scene in one of the most most famous science fiction movies of all time: 2001: A Space Odyssey. Unfortunately, no one really understands 2001: A Space Odyssey.

  Later, Desmond builds a lightning rod which captures the lightning that may otherwise have killed Claire, Charlie or the baby. Knowing the moment that lightning will strike is also a plot device in the movie Back To The Future which, of course, is a movie about time travel. Others have said that Desmond is now psychic or Claire voyant, but I'm sticking with the time travel angle.
  You don't want to know what happened to me! screams Desmond in a preview of things to come. It's bound to be mind blowing, but without a time machine, we're all going to have to wait to find out what really happened to Desmond.

Cindy (Kimberly Joseph) Will Return To LOST!

   During last night's ABC LOST Podcast (Monday, November 6), LOST Producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse answered questions regarding flight attendant Cindy and the missing kids. The question from erialc8390: When are we going to see an explanation for why the Others take the children, and other people, and what happened to them? and the question from tailies_fan: How come the kidnapped tailies haven't surfaced? What happened to Cindy? And the kids? That's bugged me ever since episode 7 of season 2! was aired on the show. Carlton Cuse answered and explained that both Cindy and the kidnapped kids would be seen by episode 8 of the current season:

Damon:: When are we going to see an explanation for why the others take the children and other people and what happened to them? What happened to Cindy and the kids?

Carlton: Well, I think those are fair questions, Damon and...

Damon: That's why I asked.

Carlton: and now I'm going to, as you requested, be serious. So yes, in fact, we will be answering (interrupted)

Damon: Wait! Take off that funny hat first!

Carlton: But it was Halloween last night! Um, yes we will be seeing them.

Damon: We'll be seeing the kids?

Carlton: Cindy and the kids.

Damon: Cindy and the kids?

Carlton: and the kids.

Damon: and we'll be finding out what The Others have been doing with the children?

Carlton: Well, we'll learn more about that - absolutely.

Damon: How long do I have to wait for that?

Carlton: 13 weeks.

  Carlton later confirmed that we should find out what happened to Cindy in episode 8.

LOST in Russia

  It's a much smaller world than it used to be. The web, of course, is partly responsible. Worldwide television syndication is another reason. I can watch Black Adder and Mr. Bean here in the US. In the UK, people can watch LOST and Desperate Housewives. According to the LOSTpedia, Lost is syndicated worldwide, and has been sold to over 210 territories, making it the second most popular TV show in the world. The most popular is CSI, but it is actually more than one show (CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: Las Vegas, CSI: New York City). Today, I can even buy the LOST soundtrack from a Russian website (AllofMP3), copy it to a Chinese made USB flash drive and play it in my Japanese car.

  Speaking of Russia, LOST is now in it's second season in Russia. I just received an email from Ксения (Kseniya), a 15 year old girl in Russia, and she is a real LOST fan! She tells us that LOST is known as Остаться ь живых and it translates roughly to the phrase to survive. Остаться ь живых airs on the 1st Channel and is currently on episode 19 of season 2 (as of 10/29/2006).

  Kseniya lives in a small town in Russia and her favorite characters are Kate and Jack. She hopes that they get together. She even has the LOST Season 2 DVD and is ready for Season 3 to start. She thinks that LOST teaches us about life and I have to agree. LOST is the type of show that makes us all think.

  There is a very good podcast interview with Michael Emerson available from Comic News Insider. It's a great interview- funny with some revealing information regarding the making of LOST. One of the funniest moments came when Emerson brought up the subject of kids and Halloween costumes: The best compliment I've gotten lately... was a friend of my wife's called to say that her son was going as Henry Gale for Halloween... to me, what could be better? We're going to send him a little picture of Henry for reference purposes: the torn orange shirt, the arrow bandage...

  So, really! What would we need for a Henry Gale costume?

Abrams, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse to talk about the show, the mythologies, and its place in TV history.

   What follows is an edited transcript of that conversation.

   JAKE TAPPER: Why do you think "Lost" became such a phenomenon?

   CARLTON CUSE: We don't know. We set out to make a show that we thought was cool for us, and you can't really predict when that's going to catch fire with the public. But I think that in making a show that was something that we all enjoyed, we violated a lot of rules of television. We have a large and sprawling cast, we have characters who are inherently unsympathetic � there are murderers � we have complicated story lines. Those are all things that intrigued us as storytellers, and I think made the show feel different than other things that have been on the air. And so I think by pleasing ourselves, we ended up creating a show that was a little bit different than things that had come before it.

   DAMON LINDELOF: When the show came along, the climate of television was made up of procedural dramas, which were great but at the same time you knew what was going to happen next week. And we all loved the idea of going into this territory where anything could happen. And that sort of started to create a buzz and make the audience perk up and say, "Wow, I have to watch this thing."

Are "The Others" of This Earth?

In the first episode of season 3, Kate tells Mr. Friendly that she isn't going to shower in front of him. Mr. Friendly laughs and tells Kate that she isn't his type.
Of course, everyone knows what we're supposed to think about Mr. Friendly, but my first crazed thought was Holy Moley! Mr. Friendly is a space alien!
We've seen how the others are observing everyone as if they are very foreign and unusual. If "The Others" are human, they could simply study each other. I first believed that "Henry" was really from Minnesota, then later, after Sayid dug up the body of the real Henry Gale, we discovered that his name was probably not Henry and he probably wasn't from Minnesota. Now, he tells Jack that his name is Ben Linus and he has always lived on the island. He also has a way to observe the world outside the island - an island that incredibly isn't visible to the outside world. When the plane broke apart over the island, Ben immediately sent Goodwin and Ethan to observe any survivors and to pretend to be survivors.
Now, realistically, they probably aren't really from the far reaches of space. However, something sets them apart from the rest of humanity. The mystery, of course, is the question: what is the nature of their separation and how did they get that way?

  London-raised cult TV expert Nikki Stafford is finding herself totally and happily Lost these days.

   Stafford's new book, Finding LOST: The Unofficial Guide (ECW Press) was launched yesterday in Toronto and she has been feted with Lost questions by CTV's eTalk entertainment newsmagazine.

   Finding Lost is on the shelves just as its subject Lost, the ABC hit which airs on CTV in Canada, returns tonight at 9 p.m.

   Stafford has been interviewed more than a dozen times in recent days by media outlets feeding on the Lost frenzy.

   Stafford is the cult TV expert identity of a London writer and editor who now lives in Toronto. She is the author of other books on cult television shows, including Bite Me! An Unofficial Guide to the World of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The London region launch for Finding Lost is at the Central Library, 251 Dundas St., Nov. 4 at 11 a.m., when Stafford will be on hand.

Someone has recently developed a very easy to use wallpaper switcher. It downloads high resolution images via Google and a 'Safe Search' filter. The wallpaper can be programmed to change automatically based on the time interval that you specify. Entering the keywords 'LOST' and 'ABC' have so far produced a number of pictures of Emilie de Ravin. One wallpaper shows Jorge Garcia and Samuel L. Jackson at some sort of big event. Toledo Man Takes Charge in the LOST Third Season

   Henry Gale wasn�t supposed to survive this long.
   The cunning, bug-eyed character on ABC�s castaway drama Lost, played by Toledo-native Michael Emerson, was hired for three episodes midway through Season 2. But once producers saw Emerson in action, he was made into a key character and is now leading The Others in the highly anticipated third season.
   The reason The Others seem so frightening is like everything in the real world - it's frightening when it's unknown, Emerson told The Associated Press. Their agenda is unknown to us; therefore we fill it up with terrible imaginings.
   The former Broadway actor is best known to TV audiences for his Emmy-winning performance as a serial killer in The Practice. Damon Lindelof, co-creator and executive producer of Lost (season premiere Wednesday at 9 p.m. EST), said the original plan was to have Henry escape after the three episodes. But Season 2 ended with Henry and his armed cadre on a dock, holding plane crash survivors Jack, Kate and Sawyer captive.
   Who are you people? asked Michael, who had betrayed his fellow castaways in exchange for his son.
   We're the good guys, Henry replies.

   As we all know Star Trek turned 40 earlier this month and for the first time in years there has been very little television coverage of it. Which has left all the celebrating to the fan base and certain strands of the media. In a recent interview for Starburst Magazine actor Brent Spiner shared some of his thoughts about Star Trek turning 40 and commented on several other things, which have been happing within the Star Trek Universe.

   In regards to Trek turning 40 the actor feels that we are yet to find out if Star Trek's life will start at 40.

   �We�ll find out. Paramount has it figured out and we all know that J.J Abrams is signed to do a Star Trek film. I wish him the best. I hope it goes well and that Star Trek goes on for another 40 years at least.�

   In regards to the choice of Abrams Spiner is upbeat.

   �I think he�s a fine choice, why not? Lost is a really interesting show. Alias was fun. I haven�t seen Mission Impossible III. But who would be better?�

   When informed that William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy could be involved in a flash back sequence for the new movie Spiner is somewhat at a loss.

The Chilling Hanso Exposed Video

  Tim Dorr has put together the fragments from The LOST Experience's Hanso Exposed video and the resulting video is chilling. It is also a revelation, because we finally learn that the numbers 4 8 15 16 23 and 42 are called the core values of the Valenzetti equation. Apparently, the world can avoid destruction if something can be done to change the core values. Unfortunately, the Hanso Foundation's solution is to introduce a virus to kill off a large portion of the world's population. In the video, Rachel Blake is secretly filming Thomas Mittlewerk explaining to his students that the optimal mortality rate from the virus should be 30%.

  The final scene is from a shaky camera as Rachel desperatly tries to run away from Mittlewerk and his minions. The scene is frightening because it reminds us of a nightmare. More than that, the video is chilling because even though we live in a world where Thomas Malthus and Paul Ehrlich have been proven terribly wrong (see Julian Simon), there are still those who believe in limiting the world population.

Mira Furlan Greets LOST Fans at Dragon*Con

I overslept! she said as she entered the room and greeted her most devoted fans. Sayid or Jack wouldn't have recognized her. She was smartly dressed without the bullets and arrows and the patched clothing. She said she was tired, but after a short while, the coffee appeared to be working its magic. She appeared relaxed and very beautiful. She made several comments about the great coffee. She knew the show was called Set Secrets and Funny Stories, but she indicated that she was ready for questions from the audience.
One of the first questions was Have you ever read a script and been totally surprised at something your character was going to do?
Stealing the baby! she replied. That was a surprise to her. She hadn't seen that one coming at all.
She told us about the porter carrying her luggage who recognized her and said Oh - you're the French chick! She laughed while telling us and said to us What kind of way is that to talk to a lady?
Someone asked if she knew the other actors very well and she told us that it was just a job. For a while, she seemed to adopt a small hint of the dark attitude we have seen with her character. I don't remember exactly what she said because I had stopped taking notes. She did say that she enjoyed solitude and wished that there was more time enjoy such things. At another point, she told us of the conditions in the country from which she came - that her father once spent time in Tito's concentration camp. He was in many prisons and once spent 200 days in solitary. He also went off to fight the Germans at age 20. She was very grateful that her father had chosen to write about his experiences.
Much later, when asked which actor she would most like to do a scene with, she quickly replied Terry O'Quinn! It was the age thing, she went on to say. O'Quinn had the sort of experience that allowed him to act in a way that seemed effortless.
Speaking of actors in general, she said that she thought many young actors tried too hard.

CLAIRE (overacting): I have to give him to them so he'll be safe, okay. Help! I'm here! Ethan!!

She said she played everything when she was 25 and says she can not watch those movies now.
We also learned that she likes her role as Danielle Rousseau. She likes the toughness of the character - toughness from pain. She likes the explosiveness and the wild aspect of the character, but she goes on to say that her character has a gentleness inside. When asked if she would like to be a regular weekly character on LOST, she replied that she would like to do more as Danielle.
Other questions involved where Mira considered home since she grew up in Croatia, but now lives in Los Angeles. What locations would she like to visit? With which language is she most comfortable?
Mira answered to laughter that Hawaii is not bad! Regarding the question of where is home? Home is house. and Home is where your books are. She considers Los Angeles her home, although she has a fear of freeways and doesn't like switching lanes at 60 mph. English, she explains, is now her language. She would like to go to Africa. She has been to Algeria, but considers it much different from the rest of Africa. She also remarked that there are no curtains in Scandinavia! She has also written screenplays and noted that her writing was more disciplined and concise when she began writing in a less familiar language.
I was determined to ask a question and after staying up all night to travel to Dragon*Con, I finally managed to blurt out: Who's your favorite LOST writer?
She was a little surprised, so maybe it was a new question. She said that David Fury had written an episode that featured her character very much and also mentioned that he was no longer with the writing crew. I replied that Fury had written my favorite episode: Walkabout and she asked me to refresh her memory on that episode. I explained that it was the episode where we found out that Locke had been in a wheelchair . She also said that Damon Lindelof, of course, was the heart of the show and she also liked Carlton Cuse. Immediately, I thought of the regular ABC podcast with Lindelof and Cuse, so I mentioned that I listened to the podcast. This, of course, made no sense to anyone not actually reading my mind, so at that moment she actually gave me the famous confused French Lady look. I explained that Cuse and Lindelof had a podcast on the ABC web site and someone else explained that a podcast was like a radio show on the net. Note to ABC: please feature an interview with Mira Furlan on an upcoming podcast. It will be great!
She was also asked about deleted scenes that she wished had been included. Apparently, there was a deleted scene where she acquired some new shiny boots from the wreckage. The scene was deleted and she later appeared wearing the new shiny boots with no explanation. She was worried that people would notice, but was relieved to learn that none of us had questioned the new boots. There was also a deleted scene of Danielle eating a raw egg. There were seven takes and she ate seven raw eggs! Now we know why she considers acting to be just a job.

The New LOST Poster and Eye Color

   Another email from All_Games brings up something interesting in the new LOST Season 3 poster. There is something about the eye colors. All_Games points out that Sawyer's eyes should be blue and Kate's eyes should be green. She also reminds us of the episode with Jack as a child with brown eyes. Jack's eyes are unusually blue when he pleads with the airport attendant to allow his father's coffin on the plane. She points out that they appear to be 2 different colors when Jack changes his report regarding his father's sobriety during a particular surgery. She recommends watching the DVD where it is easier to make out things like eye color.   There seem to be a number of discussions regarding the new Season 3 poster all over the web.
   It would be interesting to know if any of the actors wear color contacts during filming of the show. I think the colors on the poster may be just for artistic purposes. Eye color changes to some degree based on the lighting so I don't know if this is really a clue.
  My question would have to be: Why are the pictures taped together?. I suppose it is because the survivors have been studied carefully and the poster makes it look as if the Others have a room with photos of the survivors taped to the wall. The DYMO label maker labels are a nice touch. Twenty years ago, every scientist used DYMO labels to label stuff in the lab. I know this! :)

Do You Miss LOST? Then Get LOSTed!

   If it's been too long since you've watched a new episode of LOST, then you might want to check out LOST-Interactive.com's LOSTed. It is actually a cartoon parody of LOST and it has a lot of fans. It captures the feel of LOST like an impressionist painting of Terry O'Quinn captures Terry O'Quinn. The difference being that LOSTed would be a very funny impressionist painting!

   I just watched episode 1 and it involves a missing baby with plot elements borrowed from the ... And Found episode of LOST. Hurley, Charlie and Claire play important roles in the unfolding drama that is LOSTed.

  The episodes are in both DivX and MPEG format and they are downloadable via BitTorrent. Since BitTorrent is a very efficient protocol, you can usually download the episodes quickly. It is considered good etiquette to leave the BitTorrent client open to seed the file after the download has completed. LOSTed, of course, is legal to download. Don't use BitTorrent to download copyrighted material, or the MPAA and/or the RIAA may track you down mercilessly!

   If your computer connects to your entertainment center, go ahead and watch LOSTed on the big screen LCD with high fidelity speakers. Your neighbors will say What are you watching? Is that on ABC.... the Comedy Channel???

Naveen on the Big Screen

LOST fans will be able to watch Naveen Andrews in a number of upcoming movies. The Brave One, starring Jodie Foster, Naveen Andrews and Mary Steenburgen is currently set to be released on October 12, 2007.
Jodie Foster plays a woman brutally attacked who struggles to recover and then sets out for revenge. The revenge thriller is currently filming. Naveen Andrews is playing the fiancee of the victim (played by Jodie Foster).

Recently, Eros International acquired the rights to the Naveen Andrews/Aishwarya Rai movie Provoked for Britain, the US and India. The movie begins with a man engulfed in flames screaming and running from his home. The man is Deepak Ahluwalia and he is played by Naveen Andrews. The film uses the technique of flashbacks to explain the opening scene. Incredibly, the movie is based on a true story. The release date is unknown.

Naveen will also appear in the film Grind House which is actually a double-feature including a movie called Planet Terror. Andrews appears in this movie which can be described as a horror movie with zombies.

  Terry O'Quinn entered the press craziness with his wife and family. This guy is so cool -- so suave -- and so extremely hip. Daniel Dae Kim may well be one of the nicest people I've ever interviewed. Then it was time to bow to the great Michael Emerson. "Lost" fans know him as "Henry Gale."After I gave him much-needed props he gave me some nuggets from the first episode premiering October 4th. We'll meet brand new residents of the Island. (I'll reveal more on the new cast soon). Michael urges fans not to expect the expected from his kooky gang of dirty faces and ragged clothes. Heck he even hinted that they may even wear shoes back at home! Hmmmm... They are apparently nothing what we think they are! Maybe their attire is like the beard Mr. Friendly wears. A costume!

When Evangeline Lilly enters the scene... people go nuts. The beautiful lady posed for picture after picture with fans that were shocked she was so humble....

LOST, Dickens and A Tale of Two Cities

   Certainly, there is a connection between the LOST universe and Charles Dickens. Desmond has read every work of Dickens with the exception of Our Mutual Friend. In the book: Getting LOST, Orson Scott Card begins by comparing LOST to a Dickens serialized novel. Dickens would write a novel in weekly installments and the final result could be read from beginning to end as a novel. Orson explains that Dickens created very memorable characters so that we would remember them even if they did not appear in every installment of the series. Think about Rose and Desmond. They did not appear in the series for a long period of time and yet we knew they were there. Desmond was so memorable that we talked about him all the time on the message boards even though he disappeared into the woods early in season 2 and did not return until the finale. Plot threads are tied together at the end of a Dickens novel. We could see much of this in the Season 3 finale where we finally learned about the mysterious light from the hatch when Locke was pounding on it after Boone's death. Desmond, in the hatch, was also in great despair until he heard the pounding and knew that he was not alone.

   Of course, the season 3 opener remains top secret, but at least we have the title of episode 1: A Tale of Two Cities. With the exception of A Tale of Two Cities every Dickens tale had taken place in one city. So now, in LOST, after never knowing if the world outside of the island still existed (Desmond:Is the world still out there? and We're stuck in a bloody snow globe.) we know that two men in a frozen outpost exist and we know that Penny Widmore exists. So there is a world outside of the snow globe that is LOST. Of course, we also learn that the Others live on the island with their own separate civilization (Henry: Your friends are coming home with us).

   Some of the cast members have hinted that something big will happen in Season 3 and Terry O'Quinn says that the first six episodes will set up something really big. Dicken's Tale of Two Cities was about the French Revolution. What will LOST's story be about in season 3? I can't wait to find out!

Is LOST a Game?

All_games of www.LOSTisaGame.com sent me an email about her website. She has a big idea and the big idea is that LOST is actually an adventure game played on a computer. None of the producers have denied the concept, but he asks for any quotes that may discredit the theory.

Are the players being tested? How do you win the game? All_games thinks it may have something to do with cooperation. She takes the title Live Together, Die Alone as a philosophy that leads to winning the game. Certainly, we have seen the theme of redemption throughout the show. Do players have to redeem themselves. Desmond is in a military prison and then seeks to prove himself by winning a race around the world. He goes on to assist Kelvin in saving the world by entering the codes in the hatch. Later, he angrily struggles with Kelvin when he learns that Kelvin is selfishly planning to steal Desmond's (Elizabeth's) boat and leave the island. Did Kelvin lose the game when he decided to leave the island alone? Desmond performed a very unselfish act at the end of season 2. Has Desmond moved to a new level in the game?

Even if this theory proves not to be the big idea behind LOST, it is certainly an interesting way to look at the show. Then again, according to Carlton Cuse, LOST has more than one mystery to it.

The mistake they made was hanging everything on the question of who killed Laura Palmer. In our show there is not one overriding question comparable to that. There are a series of mysteries: what is the nature of the island, what is the monster, what is the hatch, who are the mysterious 'other people'? Making sure that some of those mysteries are answerable over time is the way to prevent that frustration.

  While Mira Furlan plays a character, writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach is a character. He is always a fan favorite because he enjoys meeting the fans. As well as being a laugh riot, he knows everything about science fiction. Other LOST writers defer to Javi when questions regarding Star Trek or Star Wars arise. There are rumors that Javi can also sing Klingon opera.

  LOST fans planning to attend should buy tickets early. Last years' event had a 4 hour wait for those buying tickets at the door.

'Lost,' Season 3: All about the Others

  ... "The show's going to be about our characters' interaction with the Others. It's going to be more of an action-adventure year, more romance. We'd hoped to get romance last year, but the story didn't really get us there. We didn't get as far as we wanted in that regard," he said.
"It's going to be more character-oriented, less mythologically oriented. You know, last year was sort of dark and intense and underground and in the hatch," he said.
"Obviously, the other element that we introduced at the end of the season was that after 49 hours, we went off the island for the first time. And that was not a casual or coincidental or random choice," he said. "The introduction of the outside world as an element into the world of 'Lost' is also something new for Season 3."
And because the strongest link to that world so far is Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick), you can expect to see Desmond again, too, and not just in flashbacks.
"It would be very stupid of us to kill Desmond," Cuse said.

   Lost beauty Evangeline Lilly has told how she was attracted to co-star Dominic Monaghan because she can't resist British people.
   The Canadian actress, who plays striking Kate Austen on the hit TV show, says their "self-deprecating hunmour and sarcasm" turns her on.
   The couple are said to have got engaged after falling head-over-heels for each other after meeting on the set of the island saga about 48 stranded plane crash survivors in which Monaghan plays rock star Charlie.
   Evangeline will not officially confirm her relationship with a man whose most famous role was as a hobbit in Lord of the Rings.
   She said: "It is still rumoured. Dom is a really spectacular person. And I'd rather leave it at that."
   But she went on: "Dom and I have always connected. We're both obsessed with bugs and when we were filming the pilot we'd run around the jungle colecting them! We have lots of fun playing together."
   Asked what she loves apart from liquorice, Haagen-Daz ice cream and cheese she said: "British people - their self-deprecating humour and sarcasm."

Executive producer Bryan Burk wouldn't offer many hints about the third season of Lost.
   "We've got big problems," Burk said. "Jack, Kate, and Sawyer, they've got Other issues, and I mean Other with a capital 'O'."
   But executive producer Carlton Cuse was more forthcoming.
   "This year we're looking to make the show brighter, more vibrant," Cuse said at an ABC party. "There's more emphasis on action, adventure, and romance. The show won't be as dark, as internal. There will be more emphasis on character access, less on mythological access."
   For instance, Cuse said John Locke (Terry O'Quinn) will be a different person in season three.
   "All his doubt and questions and uncertainties were answered; the button did mean something, there was something at stake," Cuse said.
   The relationship between the outside world (including Penny, Desmond's beloved) and the island will be a part of season three. The black cloud monster will return, as will the polar bear.
   Lost won't return to the story of Michael (Harold Perrineau) and Walt (Malcolm David Kelley) immediately, but Cuse said their tale is not done (and will eventually take into account young Kelley's growth spurt in puberty).

While it was difficult to get many specifics from the panel on upcoming plot points, there were some intriguing things mentioned:

# Asked about the fact that each season only seems to cover just a few weeks of time, Lindelof responded with, "You're making a basic assumption that they've been there as long as [the characters] think they've been there," and hinted that perception may be changed in season 3.

# Cuse promised "more romance on the show this season," leading to a joke that, "there's a reason that Jorge and Daniel are sitting next to each other." Asked if Kate will finally "get with" someone this season, Cuse replied, "Very soon, very soon. We promise," with Lindelof elaborating that, "Within the first six episodes, she will officially be making her selection."

# The producers spoke of writing the characters with the actors in mind, and how Terry O'Quinn's dissatisfaction with Locke's role last season became reflected as Locke became increasingly frustrated pushing the button in the hatch. Lindelof recounted O'Quinn saying, "I want a knife in my hand, and to kill stuff!," and then added, "Oh, you'll get your knife back John Locke."

Has LTG Solved LOST?

In 1969 the Catholic church populated the island in order to use it as a top secret research facility. The work carried out on the island was primarily in the areas of geomagnetism and electromagnetism. Through this work they planned to use nanotechnology to control the population of the world.

The plane crash was purely fate. The survivors of flight 815 have been transported into the future and the 'monster' in the jungle is in reality a drug-induced hallucination.

The Others are from an alternate dimension.

   I thought you might be interested to know that one of the characters from the series "Lost" Fred Lane (the Marshall from Season 1 and 2) is rumored to possibly be attending a screening of his new short film �Reflections of a Life� at the Long Island International Film Expo next Tuesday at 4:30.
