Is it normal for the t-bonz drive cups to develop large notches in them where the cross pin rides?

It depends on how powerful your engine is, the way you drive and how much run-time you put on them. Normally, you should see obvious wear on the cup where the cross pin rides after 1 to 2 gallons, and that's when you should replace them with new cups.
