Another Banquets/Mayflower Review by AbsolutePunk.

"I’ve been pretty vocal about my appreciation for this little Jersey City band called Banquets recently. This six-track split isn’t a bad way to show you why. Their side is all about execution and elegance, qualities that they nail on “Sexy Ghosts.” The track is a bigger, better version of the Polar Bear Club-meet-The Loved Ones-meet-The Gaslight Anthem sound they were building on This Is Our Concern, Dude – read: heaps of energy and frenetic guitars colliding in blissful punk rock harmony. It’s got a sky-high replay value, and is most valuable for the glimpse it gives of just how much potential this band has......"

Banquets / Mayflower split delayed.

Good news first. The three Banquets songs for the split sound absolutely awesome! The bad news is that we're gonna have to push this release forward yet another month. We're doing our very best and I hope we can have this thing off to duplication by the end of may. I'm sorry for the delay but let me tell you, you won't be dissapointed once you hear this stuff. Stay with us.

Label Update - April

Hey! Here's a brief update from the Shouting Street headquarters. The new Banquets / Mayflower split cassette is about 97% done. The artwork is all finished and layed out. I got the music from Mayflower and it sounds awesome to say the least. All I'm really waiting for is the final Banquets mixes which should be in any day now. As soon as I have the final mixes we will move into duplication. We (myself and Dave Frenson of Black Numbers) have decided to add another 50 copies to the order making it a total of 150 cassettes. We will make these with two different shells - 100 clear/blue and 50 clear/gold. I hope to have this release sent off to duplication next week...

An Update from the Banquets headquarters.

This past weekend, Banquets finished the recording of no less than 12 songs at the Machine Shop in Weekhawken, NJ. It was all produced by Will Putney and three of the songs, "Sexy Ghosts", "Unforgiven V" and the Hot Rod Circuit cover "Versatility", will be on the Mayflower split that we're putting out together with Black Numbers in April. Besides the split the band is now planning the release of a 10-song album this spring. We promise to keep you updated on that one as well. Make sure to check the recently updated show-schedule on the band's official website. The band might be playing at a venue near you. Keep coming back here for further updates.

Highly Recommended: So Adult - "Rookie"

I just wanna drop a quick line about this great cassette I got in the mail a few weeks back. The band is called So Adult and the cassette is called "Rookie". Those who review it drop names like The Replacements, Superchunk and Archers of Loaf. The first pressing (yellow shells) is out of print but you can order the second press (blue shell) from the band's online shop. This band is awesome. Check out this video and pick up a copy of "Rookie"!

Banquets / Mayflower = New Split Cassette!

Now that's it's finally coming together we're both really excited and we're doing it together as a Shouting Street / Black Numbers co-release. I have been spinning the band's brilliant 7" "This is Our Concern, Dude" pretty much every day since it came out and with the extremely high quality of pop-punk songwriting that these guys possess, I'm 100% confident that this tape is gonna come out fantastic. Featuring ex-members of Let Me Run, The Stand In, and The Banner, this is one of my favorite bands right now and I'm so proud be working with them. If Banquets are news to you you really should stop by their site and give 'em a listen. I asked Dave what band to bring aboard for the B-side and we pretty much decided right away that it was gonna be Oswego, NY's Mayflower. These guys released their debut LP, the splendid "Second Best Sunsets" on Kiss Of Death Records in june last year and I strongly recommend you all to give it a listen here. I'm really happy with our decision to ask these guys to join in...

The Bouncing Souls / Hot Water Music - Split Cassette

To celebrate the tour (affectionately dubbed the “Bud Bath Down Under”), The Bouncing Souls and Hot Water Music put together a special split 7" to bring with them. The Bouncing Souls cover Hot Water Music’s “Wayfarer” and HWM take on the Souls’ “True Believers”. On february 28th, Shouting Street are releasing the cassette version of the split and we're damn proud of it. The cassette will be available with blood red or bone white shell (50 of each) and includes a download card...

The New Dress // Detournement

Expressions like "stoked!" or "psyched!" are too weak to explain how happy I am to finally announce a brand new split cassette. Like last time, I've once again teamed up with two brilliant bands and the result of it all is gonna be one hell of a sweet tape.

The New Dress from Brooklyn, New York will take care of side A bringing two previously unreleased songs, entitled "Mabel Had Her First Serious Suspicion" and "It's a Long Story", to the table. I have been listening to the band's album "Where Our Failures Are" (Red Leader) quite a lot since it came out back in 2007 and I absolutely love it. However, these two new tunes are probably the duo's best work to date. So, I'm pretty damn "stoked!" about that.

Side B will be handled by a favorite punk/hardcore outfit of mine, Detournement from New Brunswick, New Jersey. The band feature members from such greats as The Ratchets, Big Wig and Plan A Project. These guys got bite and I'm sure their new songs "Three Point Six Percent" and "A Message To You, Rudy" are going to rock your socks off. I'm pretty damn "psyched!" about that.

If you missed the opportunity to pick up a copy of the Virgins // Over Stars & Gutters "Split" cassette from us, there are still a few tapes out there. The last few copies are available from either Kiss Of Death Records or via Black Numbers Records. Four solid live tunes from Virgins' performance at 2008's The Fest in Gainesville, FL and two brand new exclusive songs from Oklahoma's Over Stars & Gutters. Could it get much better?

"Making Mends" &"Boxes" - Audio Online!!

Over Stars & Gutters have announced the two songs they're putting on their side of the split with Virgins. Singer/guitarist Matt McHughes sent the new songs over earlier today and told me the band was really happy with how the tunes turned out. I completely agree with Matt and the guys and I couldn't be happier. The songs, "Making Mends" and "Boxes", are both awesome!
Over Stars & Gutters recorded these tunes with Daniel Weaver on August 30th at the Conservatory and October 1st in his bedroom. The split is being sent to the duplicator on friday, meaning it will be released before the end of october.
We've posted samples of both songs on the site and will post samples of Virgins' tunes later this week. Hope you like it!
