Special Needs Kitten

I'm a little upset...

The person I gave the sweet little kitten I rescued a couple of weeks ago, went against our agreement and turned around and gave her to irresponsible people. These people have lost 3 pets this year alone because once they get bored with them, they toss them outside and we live near a very busy highway and they get run over.

I am furious with her. I can't believe she would do this? I told her that I had other people interested in giving her a home. If she couldn't or didn't want her, just give her back to me and I would give her to one of the others who did. She told me that she just didn't want me to be mad at her! No, I'm mad at her for giving her to irresponsible people.

She is a special needs kitty. Pure white cats with blue eyes are often deaf. And a lot of the times, their sight also deteriorates over time. She already was showing signs of both. She can not be an outdoor cat. She was checked by a vet just last week. She is perfectly healthy. And the vet even told her that the kitty was showing signs of being hearing and vision impaired. She may be able to hear and see a little but not enough to survive outside. She said she understood. I think this alone is what made her not want her anymore. Some people don't deal well with the label "special needs". I completely understand but it still breaks my heart. She is a beautiful little kitty. Fluffy pure white fur and blue eyes. I think she'll be a long haired adult, as well. And just as sweet and angelic as can be. She'll be able to live a happy and normal life but not outside is all.

I don't know what to do? Should I knock on these peoples doors and explain to them the circumstances and ask if they'll hand her over to me? Should I do nothing and wait on them to get bored with her and toss her out before I do anything? What would you do? I guess it's true no good deed goes unpunished.

Rabies Vaccine or Titer?

I took the kitties to the vet Wednesday to get their rabies vaccinations and, instead of the three year, they gave the one year vaccine. I asked one of the techs about it and she said that the three year was causing cancers at the vaccination site in a small number of cats so the company wasn't making it anymore. Has anyone heard this?

Does anyone feed raw food as a diet?

I have been feeding a raw food diet: Raw meat, oatmeal, yogurt, oatmeal with egg yolks twice a week with taurine suppliment. It is working well and my cats love it. They seem to be very healthy. My vet is watching them...

Persian Cat Survives Stabbing

Persian stabbed 3 times by burglar

I saw this on the news this AM. A 10 year old silver persian cat was stabbed 3 times with the knife still in him when his owners found him. They had been robbed and the robbers tried to kill the cat.

The cat was in ICU for 5 days and pulled through. A miracle! I hope those robbers get caught and get justice served to them. This is a shocking story to me.

Did anyone else see this on tv? It was on National television.

Just found out my cat has polycystic liver disease

Celeste, could you give me some info about the procedure your Allie goes through to drain the cysts on her liver?

My poor baby girl was just diagnosed with polycystic liver disease and she's in pain because her liver is very enlarged due to all the cysts. It's so big it's pressing other organs out of the way (found this out with x-rays and ultrasound).

Her vet said it's an untreatable disease and nothing can be done...which I believed until I read that Allie's vet aspirates her cysts to make her feel better.

So now I'm wondering...

Are Any Of Your Cats Obsessed?

I just was thinking of my Sassie when I thought of this topic. Sassie had 2 obsessions, one of them being Q-tips. Yes she would go into the bathroom wastepaper basket to get a Q-tip. I remember one day that the chase was on between floors. She refused to give me that Q-tip. She had me chasing her for at least 5 minutes. I'm way too old for this.

The other was roast beef that everyone already knows about. Do yours having any?

Am I The Only One?

Since I have moved it seems like Mollie and I are not getting as much one-to-one time has we have had. I have a strange crew here. Only certain ones will share my bed with someone else.

The other night Mollie and I were playing catch-up. Yes we had the bed to ourselves! This girl licked practically my entire left arm clean with that rough tongue of hers. She either thought I was dirty or maybe can this be an indicator that she was telling me she loves me.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Five Kitties Going On A Road Trip!

Ellie and Celeste brought up how they are tied down to their little kitties. Well I am too.

My neighbor usually takes care of them for me when we go away. This year I am very worried over Jesse's eye so he will be going with us. Baby Bear is Jesse's playmate so I must take him too. And Binky now loves his wet food twice a day. So I want to take him. But how can I separate Binky from his Mom? I can't, plus Alexus scratches down my door if she can't sleep with me. So Alexus is going. And I would never leave my Boo alone. OK Steve---pack up the 5 kitties---ROAD TRIP!!!! Vacation is just around the corner!

Never A Dull Moment In This Household...

Allie my 17 yr old silver tabby is probably responsible for most of my grey hair by now. I gave her meds this morning, one being a steroid (some days I feel like I should try some ) which gives her energy. She has a tendency to do mad dashes down the corridor. I now have a split open staircase which she likes since she can sit on the sill and see downstairs also.

Lord and behold this afternoon during her mad dash I believe she missed the sill. I heard a crash and ran to find that she landed sitting up in her litter box downstairs.

As if this wasn't quite enough, this afternoon Unity jumps up to sit on the toilet seat and lands in the toilet bowl. The problem was I didn't flush it yet. I caught her in mid-air whereas I only needed to wash her hind legs.

As they say the night isn't over yet! What next?

ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF OUR FORUM!!!!!!

THANK YOU CELESTE from the bottom of my heart for starting this forum. You have done and continue to do a FABULOUS job and I appreciate it so much~!

Having a safe place to share our viewpoints and thoughts is great. It is so nice that we can meet here and feel like family and confide and comfort one another.

Even tho' we may not always share the same opinion, it is great to be able to voice our thoughts and then just move on and remain friendly towards one another. A rarity as far as forums are concerned I have found.

This forum was founded out of your deep devotion to Josh and to spread the word of ethical breeding and help educate people through documented information as well as our shared experiences.

You have succeeded and here we are almost one year later better and stronger than ever before. To the folks that said you would fail---well I guess they are eating crow right about now. LOL! Your true friends always knew you would do what you set your mind out to do. And you did!!! CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU!!!
Love,
Joane, Angel Buddy, Boo, Binky, Alexus, Jesse Blue, and Baby Bear

And Buddy truly is a star in Heaven. I miss him more as time goes by.

Buddy had just turned 3 years old when he died last August late at night in the Pet ER. He threw a blood clot. He had HCM, a genetic heart disease. Buddy also had PKD. How a tiny 5 pound shaded golden persian cat can touch my heart so deeply is beyond my comprehension. We had a special bond and I only had Buddy 1 year, 3 months, and 3 days. But his memory and love that he gave to me will always live in my heart.

Rest in peace Buddy

Congestion/Lack Of Appetite

Sherman has not been feeling very good lately. He has drainage from his nose like he has a cold and he seems to be losing weight. He is still eating, but he is not the piggie that he ususally is. All he wants to do is sleep. Tonight he is not as warm as he has been the last several days. Jerry said he had some problems standing up so he helped him to his food. Sherman is 14 and he will be 15 in March.

Bathing Your Cat...

I have been bathing my cats in my bathtub because I had a special hand shower sprayer installed when we did the remodel. But my back kills me bending over the tub. SO---back to the kitchen sink.

My question--- I have a new stainless steel sink. Will the claws scratch the stainless steel? Thanks!

Why Do You Buy Pedigree Cats?

I would like to hear why you buy pedigree cats? Or how you came to buy your pedigree.

My first persian pedigree was a little kitty I found in a pet store in Pa. Gorgeous silver baby and I fell in love with her. This was in 1990. We bought her and had her checked by our Vet and found she had Feline Leukemia. I was heartbroken. I had 2 other cats in my home so I could not keep her. Back to the store she went.

Steve then found Spunky for me. The best cat ever and another silver. Spunky came from a private breeder and this started my great love affair with persians. I have had 9 loving persians in my life and can't imagine a day without one.

Tell me, how did you find yours? Thanks!
Joane

Yearly vaccinations a thing of the past?

I am reading more and more about only giving the 3 in one shot to cats every 3 years instead of the usual protocol of every year. What is your feeling on this?

I tend to agree as over-vaccinating can be just as deadly as catching the disease itself.

What is the typical...

Many proposed questions listed will also apply to other cat breed purchases and should be asked even if a buyer is capable of doing a visual tour of the cattery.

A comment that I have heard over and over again by breeders is "While we would like to think that all pet buyers are informed...
