It was the only way for the team to prove themselves true contenders for post season play, and that is what they did this afternoon at home against visiting Chabot Gladiators.

The last time these two sides met Ohlone were sent home with an 8-3 spanking in 2008. Ohlone were not looking for public embarrassment nor pay back this time round. The objective was to establish presence keep the shape and maintain the game plan. And this is what the Renegades did.

Continued...

Match Report: Ohlone battles on road but freak goal holds for Canada

    Friday, October 30, 2009

Ohlone of Coast South Division, Conference Match

Ohlone @ Canada

Canada 1, Ohlone 0

After battling wild wind storms earlier this week and a just as bizarre goal, Canada takes match points from Ohlone.

The Renegades pushed deep on the Colts this afternoon and found the width at times with George Mayer and Pierre Bruggeman, but were not able to really click until the second half when swarms of chances from corners and throw-ins would get Ohlone the opportunities they needed to bring back a goal.

Continued...

Ohlone Men's Soccer article: This Mayer has his hands all over Ohlone's men's soccer renewal

This Mayer has his hands all over Ohlone's men's soccer renewal

By Matt Schwab.

Saturday, October 24, 2009 — Inside Bay Area .

Why is the Ohlone College men's soccer team so improved this season?

Perhaps it's the new Mayer in town.

Freshman George Mayer II, who wowed 'em at Amador Valley High with his menacing 20-yard throw-ins and scoring panache as an outside midfielder, has helped put a hop back in Ohlone's step. He scored two more goals in a 2-0 win over host De Anza on Friday, pushing the surprising Renegades to 10-4 overall and 6-2 in the Coast Conference. Ohlone is one year removed from a 15-loss season, and first year head coach Jan Nordmo said the men's program has been down since the mid-1990s.

Continued...

Ohlone Men's Soccer Match Report: Ohlone stifles De Anza

Match Report: Ohlone stifles De Anza

    Friday, October 23, 2009

Ohlone of Coast South Division, Division Match

Ohlone @ De Anza

De Anza 0, Ohlone 2

The Renegades’ mettle is tested and team gets passing grade. And today, at the artificial turf of DeAnza, passing was spot on by Ohlone for much of the game. Closing defensively was quick and meaningful. Finishing on goal was stunning.

Again the Renegades pushed right up to the door of the Dons' goal within moments of the kick forcing play out of bounds and setting Freshman George Mayer II, Amador Valley HS, for his first of six shots on goal, two of which found their mark today.

Continued...

Ohlone Men's Soccer: Renegades take one from Seahawks

Renegades take one from Seahawks

    Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Ohlone of Coast South Division, Conference / Division Match

Cabrillo @ Ohlone

Ohlone 2, Cabrillo 1

Go forward early and score was the game plan for Ohlone today. The Renegades followed the instructions to the letter. Although the initial moments looked this way, the ensuing ten minutes found Ohlone struggling to gain a foothold as the Seahawks were not subscribing to the Ohlone plan.

Iman Aghel was called into action early as Ohlone’s backs were split often, but not to any one in particular, which suited keeper Aghel fine as he smartly cleaned up all intruders.

Renegades freshman, George Mayer II, was up for adding to his goal tally for the season (10) having two early shots that Seahawk keeper, Carlos Flores, managed to smoother. Near twenty minutes in, Marc Wilson, sophomore forward, found himself atop the Cabrillo eighteen with a passing opportunity splitting the left side backs where overlapping Dustin Richards, midfielder, found the mark and tattooed the far right net to set Ohlone in motion.

Continued...

He then had another opportunity about 10 minutes later by collecting a bouncing ball at the top of the 18 yard box, but while catching the goalkeeper far off his line in “no man’s land”, the ball sailed just over the crossbar. Mayer would redeem himself in the 18th minute by netting a goal off a cross by Joel Higgins, who ended the day with 1 goal and 3 assists.

Continued...

Ohlone College Men's Soccer Recap

Ohlone College men's soccer team saw their winning streak come to an end, but not before they'd extended it to four games with a 3-1 road win over the Gavilan Rams in Gilroy on Tuesday (September 29).

A strong wind at Ohlone's backs helped the Renegade offense keep the pressure on, controlling the ball on the Rams' side of the field for most of the first 45 minutes. Ohlone capitalized with three, first-half goals, the first coming in the 14th minute, when forward Daniel Galloway scored after being the recipient of a fortunate bounce off a left-sided corner kick by George Mayer II; Ohlone's second goal came on a Mayer boot from the right corner which found Galloway's head and then the Gavilan net. It was Galloway's eighth goal of the season.

Continued...

Despite playing with an injury depleted team, Ohlone were seeking the road win, but four minutes in, a breakaway along Ohlone’s right side resulted in the Red Tail Hawks hitting the scoreboard first with an apparent offside scrambling resulting in the goal.

Continued...
