&lt;p>&lt;strong>What:&lt;/strong> Open Mic Poetry and Contest &lt;/p>&lt;p>&lt;strong>When:&lt;/strong> Thursday, August 13, 2009 &lt;/p>&lt;p>&lt;strong>Time:&lt;/strong> 7:00pm &lt;/p>&lt;p>&lt;strong>Where:&lt;/strong> 1680 Lexington Avenue at El Taller Boricua's Multi Arts Space at the Julia de Burgos Latino Cultural Center, El Barrio, NYC &lt;/p>&lt;p>Cemi Underground and El Taller Boricua have reached agreement on doing some cultural events at their space on 106th St. We have agreed to hold our first event on Thursday, August 13, 2009. Titled &amp;quot;No Holds Barred Open Mic Poetry Contest&amp;quot; this will be a contest with a $50 price going to the best poet who performs in the Open Mic portion of the event. &lt;/p>&lt;p>The featured poets and judges will be Chance and Simply Rob of El Grito de Poetas.       <title>Cemi Underground's 2009 All-Star Extravaganza</title>

La Bruja, Los Pleneros de la 21, Mariposa, Arnold Acevedo, Bobby Gonzalez, Jose Angel Figueroa and many more artist are joining Cemi Underground's 2009 All-Star Extravaganza on Thursday, May 28 in El Barrio.&lt;br />
&lt;br />
This event is Boricuas writing their own history. That's what this period in history will be known as. Everytime a poet writes a stanza, everytime an author writes a chapter, everytime a comic tells a joke about growing up in an hispanic home, everytime a photographer documents an event, everytime we tell our story we are writing our own history. This is really what Cemi Underground was all about. &lt;br />
&lt;br />
Cemi Underground’s 2009 All-Star Extravaganza is a cultural event and collaboration between Cemí Underground and Friends of Cemi Underground that include: Boricuation, LatinosNYC.ning.com, Tamucono Tanama Yucayeque Taino and Ku Karey Spiritual Circle, Art By Mia, Elena "Mamarazzi" Marrero, Taller Boricua Gallery, Los Pleneros de la 21 and many individuals who have supported Cemí Underground these past 2 years.&lt;br />
&lt;br />
Cemí Underground is a cultural venue that for the past two years has hosted a variety of cultural events that include book signings, poetry readings, art exhibitions and Latino comedy. &lt;br />
&lt;br />
We propose to hold Cemi Underground’s 2009 All-Star Extravaganza in a large venue that will allow larger audiences to sample the events that have made an impact on the artistic life of El Barrio and the general Latino population in NYC.  &lt;br />
&lt;br />
We would like to encourage collaborations with all local community based organizations in El Barrio to maintain our important and necessary educational linkage in the community.  &lt;br />
&lt;br />

Cemi Underground is proud to present Puerto Rico's nueva cancion singer/songwriter Jose Pepo Saavedra. &lt;br />

This Puerto Rican singer/songwriter has been developing his musical career and style following the tradition of Latin-American song and the musical genre known as Nueva Cancion for the last ten years. Back in 1993 Pepo started writing songs that attempted to paint the Puerto Rican reality of the time. Now living in NY after living in Tucson, AZ he continues trying to combine his music while participating actively in community action movements related to human rights, farm workers, and social justice. &lt;br />&lt;br />

Dylcia Pagan Presents Fiesta Boricua&lt;br />&lt;br />
In the 1970's, Realidades, the only English language TV Show for the Latino community aired on Channel 13. Dylcia Pagan was a Producer of the show. She shared one of the programs that she produced which was aired on Channel 13. The episode FIESTA BORICUA features Hector LaVoe, Willie Colon, Los Pleneros de la 110, Machito and Graciela, and Ray Barretto, Hosted by Chucho Viera, the first Puerto Rican Comedian in the USA. &lt;br />&lt;br />
Humberto Pancho Cintron, Executive Producer of the show attended the event as well as Marcos Dimas, Esperenza Martell, Joe Falcon and Evelyn Collazo among others. They were all in the film.
