Weekly Wool Market Update 2 October 2009

Another good week with prices for most categories up a further 30 to 50c/kg - even with the Australian dollar trading to a 12 month high of .8859. In our view wool prices are now moving into a phase where we can expect further sustained rises over the next 12 to 18 months. At this stage it is a supply-induced rally so we still expect medium wool categories to out-perform fine wools. This should change as confidence improves further and Europeans re-enter the market.
The main risk to the rally is a deterioration of world economic conditions and another significant drop in share markets. Short term risks will still be present from other factors such as currencies and some dips will still be serious enough to test our conviction - but for now we remain quite confident.
