Scripture is sufficient for the instruction of our minds in God's ways, and how to apply God's ways to our lives. However, the Scripture by itself is insufficient to breathe Spiritual life into the soul of a man. One can think that if he discovers doctrinal truth, exclusively on an intellectual dimension, he has somehow found all that he needs. All too often we have a tendency to focus entirely upon the letter of the truth, and thus miss the Person Who is the Truth.

This chapter of the book "The Disciple-Making Minister" provides an interesting perspective on the D/R issue. While I may not be in total agreement with some of the things stated in this chapter, it did provide a very thought-provoking slant thrown into the whole ordeal. Be prepared to rethink some of your closely-guarded presuppositions.

There is the potential of a serious spiritual error if one concentrates solely upon the intellectual dimension of the faith, thereby thinking that in discovering doctrinal truth, he has somehow found all that he needs. One might call this scribalism- the tendency to focus entirely upon the letter of the truth, and thus miss the Person Who is the Truth.
