ALIVE FOR A PURPOSE!

I'm really excited to be connecting to you through my weekly blog. This is just one more way to share my thoughts with you, and keep you updated on what God is showing me throughout the week, so please sign up for blog updates and stay connected to Tiz and I.

Recently, as I was preparing for our Shabbat Service, I was studying the Torah portion for the week. As I studied, I came to Genesis 12 where the Lord instructed Abram to leave all he knew, go to a new land and when he did the Lord would bless him. Basically the message was: "Get up and go, and when you do, I'll bless you greatly!"

This message is so appropriate for the time we're living in. The news, government, and media all say we're in economic turmoil, the general climate is one of instability and fear, and many feel that we're on shaky ground politically. But I believe that for us, the children of the Most High, this is an exciting time! This is the time for us to be moving, pressing on and pressing in.

This is the time for Christians to come out of the spiritual closet and make a stand for the world to see. Time to say that yes, we love God, we love His Word, we love Israel, we love righteousness. It's time to be bold and proud of who we are as believers!

As you know, I often refer to Rabbi Menachem Schneerson, who taught that we can really change our world. You may wonder how, as an individual, you can do much to accomplish this in the world in which we live. I'll tell you that the world won'"t change through some great sermon, or church service. But we can change the world by being the light of God that pushes back the darkness in the world. It's time for Christians to get active and start doing good, doing mitzvot (good deeds) in the world every day. Light overcomes darkness, kindness overcomes cruelty, generosity overcomes greed. When we become those things, the Light in us begins to change the world around us.

Rabbi Schneerson teaches that every morning, the first thought we should have upon waking should be, "Thank you, God, that I'm alive today!" Be glad to be living! But don't stop there. Realize that you are living for a purpose. Today, someone in your neighborhood, at work, at school, needs the light of God in their life. They need someone to be kind to them, to smile and give them a helping hand, to show them the active love of God, today.

So I challenge you to really apply this to your life, every day, just as I"ve been doing. Each morning, first thing, say, "God, thank you that I'm alive today! And thank you that I'm alive for the purpose of being a light in the world!" Then, wherever you go, smile, be kind, help someone in need, be a vessel to bring the light and love of God to everyone you encounter, and let the light of God overcome the darkness to change the world.

God bless you! Have an excellent week,
