Shakespeare In The Park Premiers Hamlet

New York City's "Shakespeare In The Park" In Central Park Kicks Off This Summer's Season With Hamlet. For Visitors In NY This Summer Who Want To Go, Head To The Delacorte Theater Near The Museum Of Natural History Part Of The Park Before 1 P.M. And Get In What Is Usually A Massive Line To Get Seats (Or Enter The Same-Day Lottery Online To Snag Tix). I Attended The First Performance Last Night, Featuring Michael Stuhlbarg Playing A Whiney, Irritatingly Giddy Hamlet, Sam Waterson As Doc Brown-Like Polonius, Andre Braugher As A Commanding King Claudius, And An Incredible Performance By Lauren Ambrose As Ophelia (Her Sudden Decline Into Madness As The Quiet-Girl-In-The-Back-Of-Homeroom-Drawing-Unicorns Crazy Rather Than The Wheeled-Out-Of-Your-Beverly-Hills-Mansion-On-A-Gurney Nuts Is A Perfect Fit For Ambrose). This Production Takes More Than Its Fair Share From Rubert Goold's Acclaimed Patrick Stewart Starring, Stalin-Era Macbeth Playing Down The Street On Broadway, With Its Bleak, Sterile Set And Its Liberal Use Of Gushing Blood And Screeching Sound Effects. (Given That Macbeth Is A Shoe-In For A Tony This Year It's Hard To Criticize Their Decision To Use It As Inspiration.) Amazingly Enough, About 15-Minutes Into The First Act A Bewildered Raccoon Appeared Onstage And Made His Way Off Stage Left. A Good Omen For Opening Night? I'm Not Sure, I Was More Curious Where Exactly It Came From.

The Beginning Of The End? American Airlines Announces $15 Fee For Checking Your First Bag. This Comes After Last Month's Announcement By Most Carriers Of A Fee For Checking Second Bags.
